Can someone please confirm that if I make a QF booking thru .br and need to make a booking change, it has to be done by contacting Expedia Brasil, it cant be dont online with QF.

That is correct.

It may even be easier to throw the ~$500 away and start again than trying to change.

QF didn't bat an eyelid when I was in that position, but yes it was mentioned upthread as a successful method, just not in my case. I now have a 2970 credit with .br to use!!!

Just had a peek at our lovely South American friend's website.

Just happens they have an attractive MEL> KUL > MEL on QF flight number (EK metal) on the days I've got off in early Feb.

976 BRL ($460 AUD)..... no prize for guessing that i snapped that one up.

Wee small hours for the flight departure & arrival times though.... its all part of the fun!

Now to work out if I stay in KUL or make an additional short hop over to SIN for the weekend?

I did not notice any effect the extra 10th seat made to the flight experience but EK's IFE and humungous choice certainly kept me occupied and entertained. By contrast the QF flight home dragged a little as I had already seen most of the limited movies they had on offer.

Absolutely. QF may be worth looking at if it is a 747. But if comparing to QF A330, the IFE on EK is much better, and the seating on EK equivalent. Having done MEL-SIN or vice versa a number of times on both carriers, I now take EK 77W over the QF A330 if available. I don't how accurate seat guru is, but it lists EK's seat width as 17" and pitch as 32", whilst on the QF international A330's it has seat width as 17" (333) or 17.2" (332) and pitch as 31", so really not much difference (although I wonder about accuracy as domestic A330's are listed with 17.5" seat width).

I thought that EK's 777s had extra pitch on QF (and most other Western airlines), viz. 33-34" rather than 30-32".

I always thought this was in lieu of the narrower seats (and, if you believe the EK CEO, he intends to further entertain you away from the narrow seat with "more food and IFE" :)).

The seat width is likely not a huge issue as long as you're fairly fit (and your neighbour likewise).

The 3 am departure may discourage some travelers. I had a block of 3 seats for the flight over and 4 for the flight back with EK. It was nice to have a lie flat bed in a barely 1/3 full Y cabin!

YMMV

who needs to pay for the lie flat bed in J then? :)

Only joking J class on EK is top notch !

But even just a shadow next to you makes all the difference, & can turn what would be quite an uncomfortable flight into quite a manageable one.

I've been on an EK flight just like this DXB> BKK> SYD with probably a similar load of less than 50%, sometimes you can get lucky.

My preference for these fares is;

1. 747
2. 330
3. EK

Taking the above into consideration I'll give EK a go one way....I take my iPad so IFE does not really bother me either way.

Anything is better than QF3 on the 767.
