Just booked the return trip to Singapore a few hours ago. CC went through without problems ("pending transaction" showing online), BUT there was no booking fee! :)

Total cost being around $880.00 ish (saving $115.00 ish on booking fee!).. Total savings of around $675 :)

Booking is already confirmed with it showing up in QFF website, as well as a new listing in "Award Wallet".

Was that for 2 people?

Costs quoted are AU$ either showing on CC transaction, or be use of currency converter.

What exchange rate are people getting on their CC A$-BRL? Banks show about 1.7, XE.COM 2.14.

Pretty much exactly as per xe.com using 28degreescard. I wouldn't be using a big 4 credit card on doing any OS transactions, the rate will be horrible and they will put another 3% on top for the privilege. Either way, are you looking at the banks cash rate? It won't correspond with that, it should go by either Visa or Mastercards rate plus whatever fees your bank decides to put on top.

I've read this thread on and off for a while but only recently been able to take advantage of it so thanks to everyone.

I'm in the UK and the .br site benefits me by letting me on EK flights to DXB and some beyond there, although not all EK destinations.

My main saving recently was due to timing more than just the usual YQ avoidance. I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but if prices are hiked at midnight local time (I found this when booking 2 days in advance), you can book via .br and get the advantage that they are several hours behind us and their pricing won't be updated until later.

Not much use on most occasions but helped me out this time.

I've been trying today to book another itinerary and after several (>20) similar searches, several previously viewed flights appear to have jumped in price. Is this just an Expedia ruse and they'll settle back to the old price if I give it a few hours?

Also, do QF have any regular sales when the biggest advantage is to be gained, eg post Christmas?

Flights jumping in price is more indicative of fare bucket availability changes than anything done by Expedia. As to regular sales, depending on your destination, there is one every few weeks if its Asia, and previously Xmas and new year has been lucrative for sales.

Fares have returned to lower levels now (approx 10 hours later). I think we've all heard of prices changing the more you search but this is the first time I've experienced it. As you say, maybe other bookings being made (and maybe not completed hence the change back) but this is the first time I've seen it myself.

I'd be looking for sales from Europe to Australia in July/August 2014. Are they traditionally included in post Xmas sales?

Qantas could have also released more seats, they are very dynamic with their yield control, given the negligible difference in commissions I doubt Expedia are gaming you, as for Europe sales, normall the early bird ones are good, not sure if you will see much over the new year.
