FedEx signs huge new freight deal with Qantas instead of Virgin Australia

Qantas’ freight business has secured a huge new deal with a major shipping service that used to hold the agreement with rival airline Virgin Australia.

Qantas has a signed a new deal with global courier service FedEx Express to distribute all its domestic freight needs for the next six years.

The deal is a major financial blow to rival airline Virgin Australia, which used to hold the freight agreement with the recently merged FedEx and TNT freight company.

This was on the cards but who knows how it will go. Will be interesting to see if their delivery timings change majorly as the APG has priority on freighters and pax flights with QF and JQ.
Funnily enough TNT/FedEx send plenty of their freight through the APG because they can’t provide a service

Freight is about the only thing safe from our state border disaster!
Even that isn’t safe unfortunately.
At peak periods like now every square inch of the belly is utilised on QF and JQ pax flights so if services are reduced it means some airfreight will need to be sent via road which greatly increases delivery timeframes

They can still send empty aircraft and make money from freight. They did that pre covid as well

Absolutely they can but it still can be severely restricted or delayed. Unfortunately it’s regional that usually cops it though with some areas seeing huge delays in service

PreCovid QF used to run passenger A330 and 737 transtasman freight only
Just look for the QF flights 2xx_ leaving after 22h00 with no passenger services.
