Qantas swaps Upcoming Flight A330 for A321XLR

No but we regularly fly MEL/SYD-CGK with either GA or QF. I’d think that eventually QF put the A321 on those routes and with a lie flat product I’d choose them if awards are available.
You won’t see A321 on either SYD or MEL to CGK due to the cargo requirements (as you know).
Out of principle I won’t fly QF International out of ADL no matter the product. QF abandoned us and whilst SQ isn’t my favourite product both SQ and MH have provided a long time services to ADL so I would stick to them
That would be counter productive if you’re expecting better QFi service ex ADL (just saying).

No doubt, many others will leap at the opportunity.

Nothing stopping QF putting two A321’s on to replace an A330, one being one of the new additions to the cargo fleet if needed.
 
Even when eventually the A321XLRs have proper lay-flat business class seats, I still wouldn't want to be on a narrowbody for that long.

A narrowbody just can't match the spaciousness and comfort of a widebody, no matter the config.

If QF deploy more A321XLRs to replace their A330s on Australia to Asia routes in the future, my points / money will go elsewhere.

I would agree and so would many, some of the A321 deployments with multiple cabins are struggling to find viable routes/attract pointy end customers, eg AC and EY
 
Id say it's more there is a perceived comfort from the size of the cabin and high ceilings (particularly if not Central bins).

But most of us are actually sitting down for 99% of the flight so actual comfort is really from the hard product of the seat.

Having flown SQs J cabin on the 737 Max8 for 2hr flights (SIN-HKT), i'd be more than happy with a longer journey in a similar seat (particularly the row2 thrones) and aircraft.

And I think the ITA J seats look better and are wider

Yeah, flew the SQ 737 for 7 hours SIN-CNS… the throne seats looked a little cramped (lots of space to the sides, the the seat itself and footwell seems not as wide as the other rows).

It was comfortable! Better than the big square seats in mainline flights.

Service was pared back a bit… given the size of the galley maybe? I’d estimate it to be 85-90% of the regular SQ long haul offering.

Economy… err… maybe not. But premium was just fine for a flight of that length.

MNL-BNE I have flown both airlines business recently & chose Qantas over PAL for aisle access, but I won't without a flat bed. Business service on PAL was only for first 2 hours, but a complaint was just a waste of time. PAL is often half the price.
 
The 321xlr with domestic J seats was meant for intra Oz routes where the extra cargo uplift was the QF benefit. Using them for long haul was inevitable given Qantas f'you approach to clients over profits..
