Qantas Status Credits Boost

Hey, they did think of their overseas members (a bit): The 4-Segment-Rule is waived for status extension.

I'm based in the US - where did you read that the 4-Segment rule is waived? I can't find that anywhere, only mentions that 4 segments is still required!

Status extension- waived. Status boost - not waived.

Just a nice gesture without any cost.

Not quite true. I would argue that there is a cost to QF for my situation as them gifting me these SCs will result in me crossing the line to LTG. So in theory I could never set foot on a QF aircraft again but make use of all the LTG benefits (a real cost to QF) whilst they have missed out on the revenue that would have been attached to the SCs I needed to reach LTG.

Apparently, when you haven’t had any cash flights on QF in the past year you go from zero to 20 SC.

YAY! 😍 My membership year ends April - just looked at mine and it was there - it says May 1 but only just appeared now ...... which is good because without international travel there is no way I have any hope of maintaining status ...... 😭

I'm a WP with a membership year ending 31 March. I requalified for WP to March 2021 by earning my own SC. My StatusKeeper 600 points have landed. And I will be getting 300 StatusSeeker points to cover March-September. So that means I only need to get 300 SC by end of March 2021 to retain until 2022. I thought I might even do this by BP, Hotels, Woolworths etc.

I felt happy for a few moments, and I really do give genuine thanks to Qantas for trying their best in difficult circumstances.

But then I realised that, under the rules, I still have to make 4 QF flights before end of March to retain and I started to feel down again. For the first time in over 25 years, I am not sure that I am going to be able to do this. I wonder if my 747 farewell flight will count? But even so, only 1 flight.

It is actually pretty hard for an ACT person to fly anywhere domestically (can't go to WA, SA, NT, Tas or Vic due to border closures, and I reckon Qld will close again soon too). That only lets me fly between Canberra and Sydney, and around NSW - not very likely - that's a lot of time on a Dash-8!!!! And please do not get me started on overseas - ALL my trips cancelled and with the earlier advice that Qantas is cancelling all international flights until 31 March 2021 (end of my membership year), I will not be able to take any trips to earn the missing 300 SC and make the 4 flights. I think I have to hang my hat on the NZ travel bubble, and realistically I don't see that opening within my time frame.

So it looks like a case of so near, and yet so far for me, despite Qantas's unexpected generosity. Keeping my annual WP status is really my main goal right now as I gained LTG ages back, and with only 31,000SC I won't be making LTP in this lifetime ;). FWP I know.

I'm a little confused and need some confirmation about my understanding after reading:

So my partner is Gold and membership year ends July 2020. He's 30 SC away from getting Platinum. Let's assume somehow he achieves platinum (I haven't looked up how, already gotten the max 50 from woolies), then come August 1st he's platinum as of a new membership year and gets + 600 SC for being platinum.

Is that correct? Should I be scouring all the various ways to earn 30 SC before the membership year ends in 2 weeks?

Edit - just realise there's the ANZ Black FF card that nets you 75 SC. He can apply for that and spend the required amount in 2 weeks. But apparently the SC only gets awarded in 3 months?

My membership year had just reset at the end of June and I had my 300 status credits deposited into my account overnight (Gold). Very happy. :)

I wonder if my 747 farewell flight will count? But even so, only 1 flight.

Unfortunately not. Shows up as an ineligible flight in the transaction history and I'm still showing 0 of 4 sectors flown.

Good outcome for many QFFers but not for all. Membership year ends Aug 20 but had already requalified WP in Dec 2019 out to Aug 21. So didn't get anything out of extension earlier this year and looks like I might get 10 SC in Sept from Statuskeeper if I'm lucky. Must be lots of others in similar position to me.

Actually this should specifically benefit you. As your WP status expires in Aug 21 - from https//frequentflyer.qantas.com/ -

"Eligible members with a status end date between March 2021 - February 2022 will get 50% of the required Status Credits needed to keep their Silver, Gold, Platinum or Platinum One status."

Putting August 21 into the calculator on that page reveals you will receive 600 status credits in September 2020 along with 50 StatusKeeper credits.

When a membership year ends, is Qantas resetting the SC back to 0 but letting you keep the status like before? All this is helping us to retain our status but I think there's going to be minimal flying in 2021-2022 which makes me wonder how I'm going to retain Platinum, even with the extra 600 SC.

I'm certainly very happy with the offer from Qantas. With my membership year resetting on 30 June, being able to boost my SCs prior to being able to start travelling more on or after March 2021 is greatly appreciated. And it helps me get closer to LTG - bonus.
I'm now extremely happy with the offer from Qantas. Another 150 SCs to come from StatusKeeper and I'm nearly there to LTG - much sooner than I was hoping for. Plus another 10 SC from the Luxury Hotel stay at the end of the month. Happy days.

Expiry month of May and re-qualified before the status extension yet no free SCs for me. Must be limited by month. Hoping they do count towards lifetime, then I would hit LTG
Yes, lucky for some. Try having a joining date of 31 January, when you get nothing, as you got virtually nothing previously
Olivia has loused this up enormously.
