Most of QF's peer premium airlines have had wifi on all wide-body international flights for the last 5 years, yet QF still can't figure it out. What a joke.
Qantas opted to go with a system that would work across its route network - including trans-pacific. That system got delayed, and while maybe they could have changed tack and gone with Starlink, they seem to be sticking with what they chose.

Not to be a QF apologist but when the wifi works, it actually works.

Was on a UA flight between SFO and ICN, bought a pass and bam, wifi only started working across Japan… Ijbol.

I think that's the overall situation. Lots of airlines have WiFi. But from my experience only a very small portion has streaming capable WiFi for 2025. Heck some of them can't even send messages properly at times.

QF chose to go for streaming capable connection and paid the price for delayed rollout. But when it works i have no problems with YouTube or some of the other streaming services at 720 or 1080p.

Starlink of course is changing the game now but that's a very recent development. There's also now the Elon tax companys have to navigate and we see a lot of the starlink companies actually not advertising starlink but rather "very fast and free wifi".
