New article on the IFE problems

smh said:
QANTAS passengers are becoming openly abusive and threatening over failures in the airline's multimillion-dollar entertainment system on long-haul flights.

The problem - which affects 27 aircraft in Qantas's 747-400 fleet and 10 Airbus A330-300 craft - is so common that the Flight Attendants Association of Australia has formally complained of cabin crew exhibiting "stress related problems" caused by aggressive passengers.

Interesting that all this kerfuffle is happening at the moment - when the system has obviously been playing up at times for nearly 2 years!

Actually, the IFE problem in A330/747 isn't the only Qantas staff issue with IFE. Rumour has it that the crew who fly Trans-Tasman aren't too happy about apologising to pax in J because a domestic 767 (ie one main video screen) plane instead of an international 767 (with individual sets) has been deployed.

I believe some of this has been mitigated by the use of hand held DVD players.

Now when will they start issuing them as standard when hopping on a 747/330? :)

Is this a new improvement or something only done by some crew? I've had several QF trans-tasman flights on domestic configured 767s in business with no DVDs. Admittedly the last time was several months ago.

I was offered one a SYD-AKL flight in J on November 5 - it was a 763 (I think) - defnitley not a 747 - I got a 743 AKL-LAX :'(

No point abusing staff. As most of us here know, it is QF who need to be told off, too often they just fail to deliver because of equipment shortcomings, from IFE right through to the fleet itself. Overall they are still better than most others but that isn't really the point. They are not as good as they should be, or as they promise.

I have been given DVD players on my last 2 trans-tasman trips in J.
