Qantas - Sorry But I Am Over You

I never trust Faifax. That goes back to the 60's and 70's when reporting on events that I was present. They made up reports that had absolutely nothing to do with reality.

Just to buy time for Must...Fly (and myself) to crack out the popcorn, I ask the OP this question:

So you seriously are saying that you are "no longer proud to be Australian" because of some "political commentary" from an Irish dude???

By Jeezus, I don't like what a lot of people say, but how does this bloke have such power over your life and feelings??

Sorry to diverse but popcorn now there is a thought. I should take some on my next flight and ask them to heat up for me. I'm sure it will be better then the current NP inspired food on offer and am sure it will get other passengers asking can they have some after they get that nice fresh popcorn smell moving through the cabin

A copy was in news limited papers a couple of days ago with pictures of the document.F

I am just fed up with political commentary from the CEO and being told what I should think and when to think it.

OK, now that news limited has been raised, and consider the quoted original concern of OP ...I can think of another (former Australian) CEO (well technically he's no longer CEO any more), of not only telling people what to think and when to think but influencing them in sometimes far more subtle ways that most people don't even know he's doing it. And in a far more influential way than of a Qantas CEO - after all vast majority of Australians would only have sporadic contact with Qantas, many less than once a year, a substantial number never. The CEO I'm talking about has vastly more influence.

Of course in the 70s when I was involved in a few matters the press took an interest the (former Australian) CEO had quite different views he was trying to influence Australians with.

You could say that John Borghetti is a quiet achiever by comparison. Interesting the discussion about a Chairperson Lounge for Qantas, Virgin director Ms Elizabeth Bryan is referred to officially as Chairman, but that doesn't stop one or two local papers who persist to reference her as Chairwoman.

I am scratching my head to think who that was ddron.

When I think about it, when given the choice I usually select Ms and not Mrs. I don’t think it invalidates my marriage in any way.

I'm no fan of QA, but the beat-up about this is ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with using PC language, it's just not a big deal. I made the silly mistake of pushing the wrong button on my car radio today and slipped from the ABC to some redneck right-wing claptrap talkback today and they were frothing about this! Get over it you oldies (grrrr ...the very same people who stuffed up our environment in the first place! I hate old people). One thing was clear though - QA can't be spending any advert dollars with these commercial-radio-blabberers else they'd be singing their praises.

So your comment about oldies stuffed up the environment (what do you consider oldies?)

What’s wrong with a simple ‘Chair’? The Chair of Qantas/Virgin/insert-company-here.

And ‘The Chair’s Lounge’.

Yes, Vermin. This logo was actually produced in 2005 by a then staffer of Virgin (very tongue in cheek of course) and given to me.

Back onto the popcorn. I'm getting to the bottom of my bowl, to the ones that didn't pop. Should I run back to the microwave?

Everybody has an opinion and the right to air that opinion using whatever source they want. Like others have the right to disagree with that opinion, or to ignore and move on. I don't agree with every opinion, but I will agree with their right to speak their mind. To do otherwise is wrong IMHO.

Surprisingly "Manly" is still a suburb in Sydney and Brisbane.

Oh the breaths wasted on political correctness.

1788

21 January - Captain Arthur Phillip with others travelled north and examined Port Jackson, so named by Captain James Cook in 1770. They spent three days exploring Port Jackson. Phillip was impressed by the "confidence and manly behaviour" of a group of Aboriginal people in the northern reaches of the harbour. As such they called the place "Manly Cove".
1788

Captain John Hunter's sketch of North Arm placed Manly Cove at the western end of North Harbour, Collins Cove being the name originally given to what is Manly Cove today.”
