Qantas Schedule more Evening Departures to North America

I have noticed that a lot of QF flights to North America are now late afternoon or evening departures in July. Would the brains trust here expect that to be a permanent change? Mel seems the only city to have a day flight ex AU.
 
SYD has morning flights QF11 to LAX and QF3 to JFK via AKL
 
a lot of the changes are to do with fleet capacity constraints. effectively by changing to a late departure to the US, it means the plane only sits at LAX usually for a few hours rather than 16-18 hours as previously.

the question is, how will this all impact maintenance and performance given that the long turn around used to allow maintenance work to be done at LAX for the 380s

the other issue is that the change of QF 11 effectively pushes any east coast travel onto QF3 which usually costs an arm and a leg more. since the revised 11 gets in far too late for same day connections to the east coast unless you want to fly a transcon red eye

re: the Melbourne flight, isn't qf93 only twice weekly?
 
The schedule for QF after the change (post-DST) is:
QF11 SYD 1735 - 1420 LAX D
QF12 LAX 2345 - 0810 SYD D

Yep, looks like it remains so in the next schedule season too.

I unluckily got the one flight which departs 2025 as a one off on 1/5 which I moved out of then!
 
They are, but even better if you use the Auckland - New York flight.

Depends on your destination and whether you want to back track. If NY is the end game then yes via AKL can make most sense, but if sticking with one world DFW is the largest of the AA hubs.

But the night time arrival in NY is good as only have to stay awake a couple of hours before sleeping and starting on the right timezone.

Also, if you prefer first class at least on the long section then LAX is the only way to go.

On QF I'm not convinced that F is significantly better than J, ymmv.

My last two flights to US were significantly delayed out of SYD (like 5 hours) so these days I typically plan a night in DFW at an airport hotel before connecting, to minimize any hiccups.

Going next weekend to Denver, so first to LAX then business on AA.

If the comfort and service are there then a bit of extra time isn’t a biggie..

If going to NY, Arriving and spending the night at the TWA Hotel and a drink in the Connie bar should be on everyone’s list. Can then fly or train onward the next morning.

I stayed there over the last couple of days .
Fascinating place and the old "Connie" is great
but
hotel hard to get to - sure airtrain stops close but it is a long walk from the station, (incl thru an elevated carpark structure ) to the hotel and current JFK reconstruction is making getting anywhere in the airport there difficult. Count on 15 minutes and when i did it , it was 1 degree Celsius and windy !
not great either for someone with a physical disability - there are hotel lifts but hard to find !

In what world is 3 hours 'half a day at least'?

To be fair, NYC is best case. A lot of other east coast destinations (Miami, Orlando, Charlotte, DC, etc) will need a 3rd flight using the routing via Japan. That would add a few more hours. Edit: Miami blows out to 38 hours

Whereas from Dallas, you're looking at a lot more 1 stop options.
