I am still unsure, and look forward to more appropriate investigation by our Senators, in our Parliament.

One of them could easily be addressed as the TWU senator from WA - the Chairman no less;)

Maybe some senators consider listed companies be the problem ...

Sadly yes unlike issues such as aboriginal health and education, the impact of the strong Australian $ on exports, the dependency of the economy on a narrow section of industry, the woeful state of infrastructure, the inefficiencies and duplication across state governments, the ability of the economy to withstand a prolonged recession in Europe and NA, sky rocketing utility prices are much less important than whether or not the CEO of a publicly traded company consulted with his Board on a topic that may or may not have needed their approval.

I would prefer the Senators stay out of the management of listed companies and work on the many real problems facing the country. And that is definitely my opinion.

Strange, Tony Abbott says senators and MPs should have got involved in the affairs of a private company, qantas, much much sooner.

Totally agree with you previous post, however. Much more important things for all of them to think about.

On that topic I disagree with Mr Abbott as much as I disagree with others supporting Senator interference in the running of listed and private companies. I have no issue with FWA getting involved although my general distaste for bureaucracy and government intervention does colour my view about FWA. I would love to see government getting involved only in essential services but that isn't going to happen sadly.

Qantas has provided some additional answers to written questions on notice. They have been uploaded to the committee's web page and are available here.

Alan Joyce and Bruce Buchanan will again be providing evidence to this inquiry on Monday 6 February from 8.30am to 12pm (AEDT). Information can be found here.

The Air Navigation and Civil Aviation Amendment (Aircraft Crew) Bill 2011 and the Qantas Sale Amendment (Still Call Australia Home) Bill 2011 (a private member's bill introduced by Senator Xenophon) are currently at the second reading stage in the senate.
