Hi,

I have a Qantas RTW ticket going: MEL - CDG - LHR - JFK - LGA - ORD - LAX - MEL

I'm unsure of my baggage allowance as I have been told conflicting things. When I rang Qantas FF customer service I was told it would be 2 x bags the whole trip because part of my journey goes to the USA but the Qantas website seems to suggest that it is up to the individual carrier? When I look at my booking online only some of the flights show baggage allowance and the first one (Qatar - MEL - CDG via DOH says 30kg).

I saw from earlier posts that there used to be a LONE4 code that allowed you to have 2 x bags the whole way but I can't find that anywhere on the OW site.

I'm studying abroad so am keen to use my baggage allowance to it's full potential! Thanks.

Welcome, hawq.

When you say you have a Qantas RTW, do you mean you have booked a oneworld Explorer ticket (one of the tickets that allows up to 16 stops) through Qantas? Or have you used your Qantas points to book a five stop award?

The baggage allowance you will get depends on what's stated on the ticket so if your eticket says "2PC" against each flight then you're entitled to have 2 pieces up to 23 kilos each piece.

If the ticket says "30KG" then you can have multiple pieces up to a total weight of 30KG eg 2 bags @ 15kg or 3 @ 10kg.

I would query whoever you are buying the ticket from & ask them if they will be issuing the entire ticket on the piece system ie 2 pieces because the airline will go by whatever is on the eticket so QR would argue you're only entitled to have 30 kg total despite your ticket involving travel to/from the USA.

Thanks. Umm not sure - I thought I booked a RTW ticket using QF points but it may be the five-stop award. I assumed it was round the world because it was capped at 140,000 points + taxes? Is there a way to tell through my online booking? I did it directly through the Qantas website.

That's an easy one. There is no QF round the world award. You have booked a Oneworld award.

You've purchased a five stop Qantas award. As Cynicor points out, there is no QF round the world award. The confusion arises, I think, because more often than not people use the 140k (280k Business, 420k First) five stop award to go round the world.

As your itinerary includes the US I believe you will be entitled, at a minimum, to two pieces at 23kgs each.
