Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

It's official: The change to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program that we've all been expecting is the introduction of Classic Plus Flight Rewards.

These are available from today, for travel on international flights out of Australia from 1 July 2024. They will be rolled out progressively on other routes.

Oh damn they implemented this by showing the classing rewards under existing reward fare type and presumably won’t provide a way to filter searches to only show classic rewards.

I’m thinking it’s going to become really painful to find classic rewards via the 7 day rolling date selector as it will pretty much always show the reward icon… because classic plus are available.

Edit:

Just ran some searches and pleasingly my assumption was wrong and they actually show days as having classic rewards vs classic plus rewards available.

Class appear to have a red icon and classic plus appear to have a great icon.

I can see now they will be marketing this as providing significantly greater reward availability, as searches now show a lot of rewards availability… just at class plus levels.

Early thoughts:
- Classic+ appears to be available for all flights.
- Taxes and fees are high ($1600 for a return J ticket SYD-LHR)
- Points prices will be lower for return flights as cash prices are lower for return flights
- No indication that Classic+ will earn extra SCs with PC/PCP — so probably the same reduced rate as award tickets.

Flights don't earn points or SC's despite the higher redemption. Guess it does have 'Classic' in the name.

And even when it shows classic availably you need to scroll through a lot of options to find the unicorn. Interesting the classic award was on a partner airline

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hmm not on Mel to Lax or Syd to DFW route at least or Sin to Oz routes. And calender is not showing dumping of classic rewards across the few routes I have searched, even when it is J9 C9 D9 availability Very silly they have not done this dump on something like every second day or so they could have demonstrated that CR is still a thing.

Looks like a bulk release of classic rewards has dumped as well. Just booked LAX to SYD in October in J x 2.
Yes! I just booked J CR (not CR+) AUS-USA in Oct/Nov that I have been eyeing off for months. Have Expert Flyer notifications set up for these but they're yet to go off.

Edit: Both flights e-ticketed within 7 minutes of booking!
