Qantas Revenue booking cancellations (under covid19)

This question has probably been asked and answered but is someone able to guide me whether a Qantas initiated cancellation and re-booking on a SYD-MEL flight five hours later is enough for me to insist on a refund rather than a credit ?

With the border closing I can't get to Sydney, with 14 days quarantine, to get the flight. Not that that will worry Qantas.
That is not relevant to Qantas offering you a flight 5 hours later. Don't get into a conversation with the call centre about it. If you do not wish to accept the change, they have to refund you. As "I" states above, you might have to insist on speaking to a supervisor, but a refund is due.

Thanks. I understand that.

would someone please direct me to a site that will allow me to receive credit notes for 5 fully paid, future economy flights ex Melbourne to Cairns and return in mid August 2020?

When did you book them? It might be outside the full credit voucher period, so you may have to pay cancellation fees if applicable. Try ringing Qantas (I assume) first to clarify your situation. Otherwise go into “My Bookings” and cancel online.

Sorry, I was wondering about the taxes which we need to pay with money

I would say you need to call and ask.

My first thought is probably not. Though they could possibly merge a credit PNR with one setup for a CFR but they may not want to.

I think your chances are slim

Yes they told me on the phone it is not possible to pay taxes with a flight credit but I am thinking it is BS because it is not that hard to offset an account for another one🧐

If the flight credit included what you were charged under 'taxes & fees' then they are misleading you (to put it politely).

If you provide a little more detail (when & how booked eg direct, via online 3rd party site etc) then more relevant suggestions can be made.

Possibly you could be entitled to a full cash refund....

I booked a flight to go to Hobart in October on Qantas website, cash. Then Covid came and I decided not to go anymore so cancelled it and received roughly $500 flight credit in total.

Now I am trying to book a classic flight reward, which cost $480 in taxes and I want it to be paid using the $500 flight credit I have accumulated.

Shame that you cancelled it - does the actual flight still exist on the day/time?

If, as is likely, the original booking had a decent sized 'fees & taxes' component which forms part of your flight credit - then Q do not ahve a legal leg to stand on ESPECIALLY as the bulk of the 'F&T's normally are Q imposed charges no different from the fare component.

Point this out, write down name, time of day, date, any relevant comments made by the CSA, ask for it to be escalated (as is your right), if pushed back insist on speaking with their team leader/mgr, do not get sucked into the 'all complaints must be made online' trick they've been trying on - say I never said I wanted to make a complaint, I just want to speak with your....

If no joy then contact ACCC (do some research about the ACCC order to Q about refunds etc).

Good luck.

Thanks, I guess I'll try again.

The flight still exist but it was for an event which has been cancelled so I would rather keeping my money and annual leaves rather than spending them unnecessarily

Just as an update, I finally received my last Qantas refund today. Took an additional week between processing (and receiving a confirmation email about it) and finally seeing the funds appear on my Amex. But it's all done- finally!

I booked a flight through Amex Travel using their annual $450 flight credit - booked MEL-SYD-MNL return for 31 October and topped up with cash. I am expecting this to be cancelled. My question is whether I will be entitled to a full refund direct from Qantas or whether the refund would go back through Amex Travel - who will then retain the value of the $450 flight credit.

Hoping to find out how this will apply in practice and also what my legal entitlement would be if that is different.

Thanks in advance.

Your second assumption is correct. The refund would go back through Amex Travel, who will then retain the value of the $450 flight credit for your next booking. Regardless of the TA, refunds always have to go back through them and not directly to the client.

We were in the same position. When Mrs Macs flight was cancelled, Amex advised we would receive the cash portion back and the credit would return and last 12 months from the date it was refunded.

Thanks. Alas I no longer hold an Amex card and I think the Amex Travel only accepts payments by Amex - so a travel credit is not useful. :(

Has anyone managed to cancel their bookings now that Qantas had allowed cancellations until 31 March (for which you receive travel credit)

The site says you can do it through MYB but none of my flights have a cancel option and I don't want to be calling them.

even when the flight is cancelled, and you are promised a refund, you won't see the money for many months, we are still waiting after 4 months, been given incorrect transaction ID, will continue to call them, not sure if ACCC can do anything in this case though
