Thanks. Have gone ahead and done it and the number is indeed correct; no cancellation fees.

I also received an email saying a flight had been cancelled in "error", but no idea which one they're referring to. I was still able to log in to my most expensive trip and finalise the refund.

Just for completeness, when was your flight? Fare type? How did you pay? Please let us know when you get your expected full refund.

Same questions as above, if you don’t mind.

23 May for MEL/KUL via SIN, Business Sale booked during DSC using Visa. Refund amount will be cost of ticket less credit card fees. My past experience is if its system generated than approx. 5-7 BD, maybe longer now due to volume. Normally system generated if purchased as direct website booking. If the refund needs to be manually processed due to it being purchased originally as a gift voucher and redeemed then can be anywhere up to a month. This was what happened for my bookings in Mar that I requested for refund in Feb. Given the amount of cancellation they will need to process, probably expect longer.....Note that if the purchase was using a GV then the refund will most likely require a manual processing as refund in two parts, cash and GV to be reinstated. I have yet to receive my GV re-instatement and not sure if I will chase for it now due to long wait times even for premium lines. May do that later.

Received an email to say my flight was cancelled by Qantas. The email did not state which flight was cancelled.
Upon logging in my itinerary had been converted to a credit . I was able to request a refund on the website.
The system indicated that the full amount would be refunded, excluding credit card fees (grumble).
No cancellation fee appears to have been charged.

Does anyone know with the refund, what happens to advanced seat selection cost either using points or cash?

I am expecting to get it refunded ( I paid cash..) according to their rules.....

• Seat selection is non-refundable unless:
• Qantas changes your seat for operational, safety or security reasons (even after boarding the aircraft), and we are unable to seat you in a suitable alternative.
• There is a flight disruption causing you to be moved to another flight and Qantas is unable to seat you in a suitable alternative on your new flight.
• Qantas moves you to a flight not operated by Qantas.
• Your fare is refunded (including where you are entitled to a refund under the Australian Consumer Law).

Has anyone tried moving/cancelling a partially flown booking yet?
Yes, but you wont get a voucher. The credit is recorded and you have to ring the call center to redeem the credit.

On another note, I have about 8 international flights booked after June 1st 2020. The refund goes straight to voucher no choice of cash refunds. Does anyone know when or if there is a cut off date for taking the voucher? Or would it be best to wait to see if Qantas cancels the flight due to still being grounded?

I wonder where this leaves me with the seat selection fee for a Jetstar Asia flight booked as part of a QF reward booking that QF has cancelled.

I actually outlined this in the post you quoted.

My cancelled flight voucher had a flexi fare on the booking. I have to book a flexi fare when I use the voucher. I can book a different, cheaper, route using the voucher where the flexi fare cost is lower than the value of the voucher. So equal fare class, lower cost. And they offer a refund of the remaining value.

A search for random dates in June is showing MEL to JFK for $3400 out and $3600 return.
Or maybe see if you can use your voucher for a one way MEL to Sydney in business, and they offer a refund of the unused value.

OR take the refund, pay the $800 fee person and rebook at the current sale price. That will cost less than $2600 over all.

Right so, having an opinion that Qantas are not price gouging you is a personal attack.

I give up, there is no helping some people.
I have no idea where you keep pulling these figures for QANTAS return flights from MEL - JFK for $3,600?
These are the prices copied from the QANTAS.com site today: Business class return flights range from$8,640 - $13,090 so your pricing is out by a minimum of $5,000 and up to almost $10,000.
if you can get me return QANTAS business class flights for $3,600 please tell me where?

So a QANTAS want between $2,600 -$7,090 ON TOP of the $6,000 voucher they want to give me for the exact same flight they cancelled... if that's not price gouging what do you call it?

If anyone is interested apparently QF will be will be extending the cancellation without penalty past the current date for flights up to 31 May. It was also mentioned that the refund backlog is around 150,000.

According to the Qantas Agents site, waiver is now for flights until 31 July 2020, provided they are held in credit before 30 April. No requirement for flights to be cancelled for this waiver.

There is a separate waiver for flights that are cancelled.

Same here. But for (in my case) a $15 credit card fee on a $1500 fare I'm not gonna grumble too much. Not when I'm faced with the possibility of several thousand dollars worth of non-refundable or at best partially-refundable accommodation and event bookings. Losing only 15 bucks is a bargain.

@MarcB thanks, I only found out as I need to cancel a reward booking in June and did not what to be charged the 6000 points. I know all the fees and taxes will be returned at some point.

@Matt_01 did you call? I have an award in June that I just want to move because EK has cancelled the flight. I know they are busy, but I can't change it online and I know award seats will dry up quickly...

If you have to cancel a then-280k OWA I assume you need to stump up the now-318k on a replacement booking?

I know there is a backlog, but I’m still waiting for news on someone actually getting a full refund (less credit card fee is probable outcome) and into which type of payment

@MarcB I did call but it was too SST for another matter. I should be able to cancel online but have not tried.

Now on the Qantas homepage:

Flight credits extended to 31 December 2021
If you are holding a Qantas ticket for travel before 31 July 2020 you can now get a flight credit valid for booking and travel by 31 December 2021. This includes flight credits issued on or after 31 January 2020. Flight credits must be requested by 30 April 2020.*
If you already have a Qantas flight credit issued on or after 31 January 2020, this will also be automatically extended but may take a few weeks to update in our system.

The extended voucher validity to end of 2021 may be useful for folks who wait for a sale before re-booking. But still bound by the same voucher conditions / restrictions.

Anyone had their flights sorted through AMEX yet? I’m yet to phone but did email last Friday to no response. Am not in a rush as flights aren’t till May - the Amex advice is to not phone unless travel is within the next week. Will report back once I’m sorted.
