Qantas responds to Germanwings incident

I noticed on my recent VA flights to DPS then when one of the pilots was out of the coughpit that a member of the cabin crew would stand guard at the front of J, not allowing anyone forward. This was a 738. I'd never seen this kind of thing happen before. This was about a month ago. This happened on both the flight there and return.

Any idea what that is about?

I was waiting for the toilet on a 738 when the pilot/copilot came out. He asked me to stand around the corner whilst he entered the security code to access the coughpit. Seemed reasonable to me.

4 with a Star for Training Captain/Check Captain or equivalent

4 for a Captain

3 for a First Officer

2 for a Second officer.

Varies between airlines but that is the gist of things.

And to have me a metre or so from a wide open coughpit door, with nothing in the way, was kinda weird.

When I flew in Europe last year I remember looking down the aisle to the coughpit and spying the FO reading through my logbook, door wide open, no one standing in the way, for well over 30 seconds! Guessing that wont happen anymore... but it was completely not what I expected, compared to Australia!
