Umm, so this means not even any chances of anyone ever occupying the "jump seat", must say though, do they still let any "trusted" person use the "jump seat" post Sept 11 while the plane is in the air.
Was on a 320 flown by (A)NZ a few years ago, was in 2a, and noticed the flight door open, and a crew member went to the loo.
This was during flight.

Didn't the 767 became modified so that there was no flight officer required?
Within Aust, the (A)NZ 767 is the only one aeroplane that "used" to have a flight officer.
Will flight fares go up, because now there must be three up there, instead of two, meaning more wages to pay, etc?
I had a jump seat take off in an A320 as late as September last year...a case of who you know, however, I still was quite surprised to be invited up for that in the post Sept 11 period.
ps... Red Roo, it was not QF or JQ

Getting O/T but still ... Only a year or so ago I was on an international flight on a mainstream Asian airline and hovering near the forward toilet on 777 (ie between the aircraft entry door and the coughpit) waiting my turn.
The guy came out of the toilet (he was dressed normally - not uniform - and too old to be a current pilot), but turned left, rather than going past me to his seat. He knocked on the coughpit door then stood looking at the camera. A few seconds later, he was admitted. The coughpit door was wide open with me standing just a metre or so away. None of the FAs in the adjacent galley batted an eyelid let alone tried to shoo me away when the coughpit door was open.
I noticed on my recent VA flights to DPS then when one of the pilots was out of the coughpit that a member of the cabin crew would stand guard at the front of J, not allowing anyone forward. This was a 738. I'd never seen this kind of thing happen before. This was about a month ago. This happened on both the flight there and return.
Any idea what that is about?
US airlines have been doing that (with a galley cart blocking the aisle) for 13 years.SOP for over a year now.

Still a bit confused as to what exactly that's meant to achieve though? A slightly built female is not going to present much of an obstacle to a larger determined male to get past her. However, assuming he did, then what? The coughpit is still secure. So what is the point of that procedure? I'm sure there is one if they do it though.
