Qantas removes Apple iMacs from all Sydney lounges

It will make a significant difference in Brisbane should the idea be expanded.

The small difference Brisbane needs is a renovation with a small tactical nuclear device.

I wasn't proposing to carry the renovations out myself.
I don't have a Queensland Builder's License.

An absolutely atrocious decision.

A slap in the face for loyal travellers who do not carry iPads and would like to do some real browsing on a computer and be able to print things. Yes I cannot stand the majority of mobile websites.

The instructions to print look convoluted.

In Brisbane business lounge they removed the 4 desks and have put tables and chairs to sit ~10 people. Fantastic. Most times I see 1 person sitting there where 2-3 chairs are arranged in a cluster.

What is the point again of this downgrade?

i agree mostly. Last time I transited through BNE J it did strike me that the chairs around the windows arranged facing each other was a terrible waste of space when one person occupies one seat, especially when they are the ones with the mains power. I did suggest in a follow up phone call that those chairs could be faced inwards so people would not feel self conscious about asking to occupy the spare seat. Did that ever happen?

I personally find pc's with printer connected very useful at international lounges. I often book hotels, even flights as I travel, and if unable to access a printer at hotel to print itinerary (always safer to have printed copies when overseas), then I rely on printing at the airport lounge.

Unfortunately no. Chairs still facing each other. I think if chairs faced inwards it would impede the walkway.

My main issue is with Printing.

I have occasionally used them to print Boarding passes, hotel details etc.. last minute presentations to markup on a flight.

I understand that the Qantas printers have support for Apple AirPrint, but what about support for users of Android phones/tablets (Google Cloud Print would be a possible solution) or PC laptops. I note I havent looked at this recently so don't know if this has been addressed or not.

I recall in the AA lounges for a number of years they have had a Print via Email function where you can send a PDF to a dedicated email and it prints.

My folks bought a new Epson printer that supports this function and I can do this all the way from BKK!
It's a great idea - wonder why they don't implement this feature for lounge users. A simple sign saying "Please ask for the 'Print via Email' address" would work.

OK - well without a keyboard with a number pad...

Or try using EstateMaster without a mouse... thats impossible...

I was happy to hear about the removal of the iThings - until I realised they weren't replacing them with a real computer.

I always use them for any trip over about 20 mins - having a keyboard is invaluable. But my biggest problem was finding one that worked at SYD dom J - one keyboard the "L" wouldn't work, another 3, 6 and 9 on the number pad didn't, and the mouse was always horrible.

Well, I am in the SYD dom J lounge right now, and happily they haven't removed all the Macs; I am using one to write this. Maybe they have already had some negative feedback about this...

The original article did state that while most of the computers would be removed "a handful" would remain.

From what I can tell there are 3 desktops near the kids area in the SYD Qantas lounge. I haven't seen any others.

I quite often use a PC and printer in airport lounges. I hope they don't remove all of them, as that would be terribly inconvenient - regardless of AirPrint or print via email capability.

More often than not, when I want to use one of the lounge PC's, I find myself having to wait for someone else to finish; I don't know where they got the idea that they are under-used. This has a smell of penny-pinching about it.
I think it might be in the interest of "fairness" that they are being removed. Qantas logic probably being that all the people using their own laptops are being disadvantaged

I plan to do some printing in the SYD First lounge today.

I hope the desktops and printer have not been enhanced.

The sign about this in the SYD t3 j lounge said that iPads were available from the front desk.

The SYD j lounge at t3 had six or seven in a cramped row along the south side of the central block - all those at the separated work desks had been removed.

When one needs to spend an hour or two with prepartuity work etc. , cramped long bench areas don't cut it, let alone iToys ...

I will be submitting negative feed back.
