Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

One thing to look at is BA27/28 & BA 31/32 (HKG-LHR) and CX flights which seem to be" threading the needle" once leaving China airspace.

and EU-Asia flights would resume flying via ANC like they did 30 years ago.

Would they? SE Asia-EU would still be much shorter over Africa, south of the ME (depending on Egypt/Sudan corridors). SIN-ADD-LHR is 3000 miles shorter than SIN-ANC-LHR. Even SIN-JNB-LHR is marginally shorter than travelling via Alaska.

And Airbus has increased the MTOW of the -1000 by 3T from 319 to 322T
Which doesn’t mean much other than a tick on some paperwork. The A380 went up by 2 tonnes just before I retired. There was no engineering change…it just cost a bit more. Most of the time I was flying it, MTOW was 569 tonnes, but not all airlines had weights that high. It’s just that we needed it, and others didn’t.

Most of Asia is north of SIN!

North Asia via ANC. SE Asia via Africa.

Most of Asia is north of SIN!

Just a proxy. Most of Asia (as defined geographically) is also actually west of SIN ! Africa or Alaska is probably not an option for DEL-EU, for example, which leaves threading the needle for EU/UK carriers whilst Indian carriers have Russia open to them.

In any case this situation is pretty far fetched. EK and QR simply wouldn't allow it. We've had conflicts in the region for decades and yes it impacts flight routes but there's usually a path somewhere.

Apart from QR having their own issue flying “around” the ME recently but that was resolved.

A wholesale restriction across all the ME would be a death knell to their post oil economies and much less likely….we hope!

Will never happen.
Im in the camp of unlikely but never say never.

When I look around the world Putin and Xi electing themselves for life, Ukraine war, China’s attacks on Western and Pacific nations air and sea vessels (including Australia), the loose cannons of Erdogan and Orban, the rumblings in Netherlands, the possible second coming of Trump, Gaza, the rise of neo-naz_s in Germany and Australia, nuclear weaponry in Nth Korea. I’m not sure where the world is heading.

Some main stream news sources have reported rumors of health issues with both.....
But I continue to hear rumors about the lifetime of the Qantas frequent flyer benefits as well.....
Should I continue wandering?

Speaking at a media event in Sydney, Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson blamed manufacturing and certification issues for the six-month delay, though noted once the first A350 was in the hangar the remainder “will come relatively quickly after that”.

Would have expected QF to slip in that SYD-LHR won't be going ahead at this time and put the blame on Airbus/regulators for the heavier than promised aircraft

Wait and see I guess...

But they didn’t, so that’s a good sign.
