Qantas priority boarding - crippled by Communists?

Today's experiences.Boarding our MEL-SYD flight there were 2 equal lines well before boarding commenced. It was a 1300 flight so i doubt they were all elites.
Then boarding the SYD-MCY flight when they announced boarding soon there were at least 20 in the PB line and 2 in the nobodies line.We went in the nobodies line.
It is obvious that QF PB is a joke.

Priority boarding, like priority luggage, is a service QF sell but almost never deliver.

Departing Canberra last year there was a new FA doing boarding. The more ‘experienced’ FA mentioned to the new FA that “we’re meant to board priority first but I don’t bother” so it’s just lack of care by the staff and lack of enforcement by senior staff

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I guess the obvious reply by the gentlemen in front of the OP would be to say, that's ok I was in the wrong line.

I bet this lad was a gate agent. Qantas only allocate 2 crew for boarding on limited flights. The common practice where there is only 1 crew member is for a gate person to do the other line.

someone said something about 2 lines being quick - that isn't the case at all. If 1 crew is doing boarding, and gate agent doesn't step in, they can only process 1 person at a time. Doesn't matter which line that person comes from. The same is true for 2 lines with 2 crew. if they process from the PB line only the speed is the same as if they process from PB and NPB.

Had noticed the usual line is faster than Priority (at least half the time) for the tourist destinations, especially SYD-OOL or SYD-MCY.

Juddle should have told the man off and also report to supervisor immediately. Or else RUDE man will get away and do it again.

This is from a quote: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.

PB and QF is my biggest hate... I can see this being unpopular, but get rid of the SG and MAKE PB GREAT AGAIN!!

Boarding my MEL-BNE flight last week... can you guess which line is for which?

Qantas need to start sending people to the correct queue. They do that in HK, actually I think they delight in doing that.

In Singapore its the complete opposite. Was boarding the QF1 the other day and they did boarding in the most backward way that I have ever seen. They did a few preboards (those who asked beforehand, eg with children) then first class only boarding (Not even OW Em/WP/P1) then more families then finally Business and Premium Economy. The Economy queue was also in front of the auto gates but they were switched off (So that queue was never used).

It was complete chaos, and someone behind me commented about what was the point of status when you don't actually get to board early

Figures. There’s so many things wrong with Qantas and SIN at the moment.

Though surprisingly the lounge didn’t fill up at all (Sunday 17th) and I was there from when the 35 arrived through to boarding the 1. Nothing special in the lounge for P1 bar the tattinger

Sometimes if the “PB” queue is long I’ll go be the first in the “NPB” queue without drama.

But if there was drama (never happened yet) the white card will do the talking.

I have no problems with F pax boarding before elites.:D
Did have one interesting experience at MCO boarding AA to LAX.The call was for F pax to board.A couple of EXPs tried to board with us but turned back. One of course put on the act to be told you are just one of 46 EXPs.So you can board with all of them.

But SIN isn't the best place for PB.The BA boarding is who pushes hardest gets on first.

shuuy, I am not so sure. I am fairly confident that if I whipped out the P1 card in Santiago, the gate staff would have no clue what it is. I really mean that. Status is something that QF markets far more to customers than to their staff.

And another comment, every month or so I get to witness the same spectacle of boarding QF28 in Santiago. It is always the same - a long queue of priority boarders all apparently amazed and confused as to why their PB queue is so long. The staff actually handle it well - apart from the people with mobility issues, etc, they do ensure the PB queue gets on first. But the queue is long.

To sum it up, I heard one disgruntled person in the PB line take issue with the length with a short but nasty comment to the staff member. They replied that it is a big plane, which it is. The 747 has a total of 94 seats in J and PE!! Add to that some status flyers travelling in Y and you have well over a 100 people deserving the PB queue.

I would appreciate if as a P1 I had a separate queue, but then so would WP's, and Golds, etc etc

OT (slightly) but I’ve seen people chucked out of the priority line at SYD domestic. I sometimes think I’m the only person that PB works for perfectly! Although I have to admit that time in SYD was the only time I’ve left the lounge early :p

I've seen this too in SYD when a ground agent walks the line and weeds out the unworthy, I mean the ineligible. Seems to happen more on the two door A330 flights and before boarding starts. But I've never seen anyone ineligible turned away once they get to the desk and boarding is underway.

The auto gates in EU work well. You scan your own BP and it opens if your class of service or status is boarding. If not, red light and stand aside.
