I've found the bulkhead seats a little squishy too. Whilst visually they have plenty of room, you forget to consider the fact that you can stick your toes in under the seat in front of you.

We sat in 36 J/K on QF127 in November. Yes, there was no seat in front of us to put our feet under and I found myself wishing for some extra foot room a couple of times. But, and it's a big but, we sat in 39 A/B coming back and as soon as the seats in front reclined we could barely move. We've again selected 36 J/K for our flights back from JFK to BNE later this year, hoping that our J upgrade request comes through this time (it didn't for QF 128).

IME, almost none of QF's bulkhead seats have extra legroom if you are taller than say 5'10". I prefer legroom to not having a recliner in front.
