Qantas Premier Credit Card

Oh god Citi makes my head hurt.

So I got a promo for 6 x bonus points at a pet shop of some description. Never posted of course. Called and spoke with someone in Manila who eventually got it after half an hour. Said she’d need to get back to me. Called back at midnight the next night. Yes midnight. Said they’d be posted within 7 days.

7 days later... nothing. I lodge a complaint. I get a PDF letter telling me that my 70k sign up bonus has already posted. Sigh. Call and spend another hour on the phone and the staff don’t listen and can’t get it through their thick head. Figure I’m wasting a lot of time for 1200 points so I tell them I’ll just escalate to the AFCA.

Get a response from Citi today. They tell me my “account was never eligible for the 5 x bonus points on all spend from 1-31 May”. I scratch my head. WTF is she talking about. Then she goes onto say “as a gesture of good faith, I’ll award it anyway” and deposits about 20k points in the account.

It’s actually funny... but how on earth does Citi allow this operation to be so hopeless!

If you already have a Citi Signature QF card, does that prevent you accessing the bonus on this card?

Does Citi or Qantas consider you an existing card holder for the purposes of the exclusion period?*

Whether I want the headache of two citi products is a whole separate debate of course...

*Apologies if this has been asked and answered, but I used the search function and drew a blank.

The saga continues. After not receiving the 20k points, I send this person an email asking what’s going on. She says “I’m sorry I still can’t understand what you have asked for, however I can confirm that the points have failed to post”. She then goes onto say “I’ll offer you 50,000 points” and then says “so a total of 168,559 points will be deposited in 2 days”.

Seriously scratching my head

Yes, but this is sort of thing is normal when dealing with Citi. Anything can happen. :)

I know there is hesitation to apply for another Citi backed card in quick succession, but can confirm I was approved for this card despite closing another Citi product (flyer card) within the last two months.

Hate this card. Huge pain in the neck trying to log into internet banking every time - it keeps forcing me to change PINs and passwords at seemingly random intervals (no I had not entered them incorrectly). SMS and email constantly with random spends.

Paid off the balance last night and closed - 20,000pts / month is not worth that much hassle in my life! Hmm wonder if I can get a pro rata refund on the annual fee.

I totally agree. It’s so ridiculous when you are already logged into the app/website and then you have to enter your password again to download a statement!

I don't miss Citibank :)

Well I didn't end up getting the 168,559 points.... I mean it may well have been a hell of a lot more than that, but I guess I've just lost track of what they've done and it's not up to me to chase it.

Again, how does Citi stay in business!

Just closed this card today that I opened at the end of 2018. Pretty quick and took less than 5 minutes. Said I needed to reduce my credit limit for a mortgage I was about to apply for (not true). A good excuse and no sales tactics were used to make me stay.

They cannot employ sales tactics any longer once you say the word 'cancel'. If intimating that you're looking for more points/cheaper pa cost or whatever, they may negotiate, but not once you say, "cancel," that's what they will do. It's the rule now.

Oh of course. A result of the royal commission.

Does anyone know how long it takes before it shows on your credit file that your limit has been reduced?

I don't want to apply for another card too soon if that one hasn't been removed from my credit limit.

Anything up to 6 months. Don't give it any regard. The provider of your new card will ask for evidence of differences between your credit file and what you have in your application if they are concerned. Do not wait is my advice.

I got the Qantas Premier Platinum a few months back to get the 120,000 points offer. You get 20,000 each month and I've had 3 lots, so 3 to go. And after the frustrating phone call I just had with them, I'll be churning away in 3 months! Argh.

I rang them (oh god ringing them is horrible, phone trees and pins and date of birth and round and round) to increase my credit limit. I had an old Card Services card with a $25k credit limit, and the new Qantas card only has $10k, and I get nervous. I just canned the Card Services one as the fee is due in a few weeks.

But, turns out, you can't ask for a higher credit limit until you've had the QF card for 9 months. WTF?! Why don't they advise this when you first apply?

The annoying woman did say that if I needed to buy something over that, I could put the money into my account and then could go over my credit limit, I'm really dubious about this as I've heard you can't do it normally, your credit limit on the card is set. But I might end up having to try it.

Generally, with Australian issued cards, you can over-pay them (assuming you don't actually need the credit) so that you can make purchases greater than your credit limit - so you might have been correctly informed.

With US Cards, (including Amex in Australia), you can't - they'll suspend your account.

Can they see your other citi accounts when approving or declining the qantas premier card? Want to apply for qantas card this week as i have a big spend to do but need to wait another 3 weeks to i can close the citi account to get the bonus points. Was planning on excluding citi credit card from total credit card limit on application.
