you know i once heard that 1 point = 3 cents.
That would make a trip to AKL $1080 plus taxes
the qantas system is bogus.
They need to decrease the points to fly.
WE are all being taken for a ride.

I'm pretty sure Qantas says that points have no cash value.
That means they're only worth what you perceive them to be valued at.

We all have choices on what to do with our points.

The value is indeterminate, for 20000 points I can get a flight that costs $2400!

1 route does not make a system bogus.

There are some extremely good redemptions to be made, but on the flip side there are some shockers.

The info you provide is very vague and selective. Was it a Y seat?

I guess everyone has a different opinion on value.

You need to look at what gives you the most value for points.

Monday night you can book a business award MEL-AKL for 36,000 points and $107.

The same seat booked with money would cost you $1,307.

So that 36,000 points can have a net value in this case of that 3.3¢ per point.

Only on mondays? I booked bne-akl retn at eccon for 36,000 points plus $300 in taxes how come your deal was so good?

Whoever said that is wrong. The value of a QF point very much depends on what you use them for. For example, the closest thing to a cash value for points is to use them to buy gift cards in which case they have a value of around 0.65 cents each.

If on the other hand you use them carefully for flight awards they can be worth up to about 4-5 cents each.

My example booking is one-way in business class.

Return would be 72,000 points and that $300.

There are lots of other ways to use your points, one route does not make a scam. Check out the other options, I've always found they're handy for upgrades and 8,000 SYD-MEL is good if I want to burn some points on an interstate trip.

The best use of points is to go to the QFF store. There's such a variety of things to buy there. Better than that even is to get woolies vouchers with your points, then your groceries are free! Don't bother spending them on flights, not worth it.

There are some great toasters in the QF store. Everyone needs a new toaster. In fact why not buy a few they are so cheap!

The Qantas store also has a very snazzy dust buster available. I think anyone who is a WP, or above would be crazy not to "buy" 1 (or 10) of these - certainly don't waste points and time on trying to upgrade flights. J to F on the 380 is nothing compared to a free dust buster in every room.

Did you actually read the previous posts :?:

For an example look at post #3 where points are very valuable.

I find donating them to random charities the best use. Agree with others , there is no value in using them for flights at all.
