Qantas Points Club Discussion

I’m fairly sure that there is no soft landing for Points Club Plus (ie if you’re a current Points Club Plus member and don’t hit the 150k point threshold, you would only drop to Points Club, rather than drop down to nothing), but does anyone know for sure?

I just got this from Qantas...

As a current Points Club member, you can continue to enjoy your benefits until 30 November 2026. You can also continue to enjoy your Green Tier benefits until the retirement date.

A little blunt, given I'm only 7000 points away from requalification with 3 months left.

Yes, I got that too. I'm sure they said PC will be grandfathered when all this was announced. I'm currently PC+ and have qualified for PC to 1/9/27 and with the cut-off being 8th November I'll definitely be able to get the 150k to extend to 1/9/28. I really hope that's still the case but the email didn't fill me with confidence.

The email clearly states -:

From 8 December, you’ll no longer be able to attain or retain Points Club, Points Club Plus or Green Tier.

So that means you can still attain/retain PC / PC+ / Green Tier any time up to December 7 inclusive. And yes, the program is grandfathered, so you would retain the privileges for the relevant time period thereafter.

Might need to look out for any offers to purchase points with a bonus on top.
FWIW, courtesy of Google AI Search -:

Over the last couple of years, Qantas has followed a predictable cycle of running buy-points and top-up promotions roughly every 2 to 4 months.

Promotion Frequency and Timing
  • Quarterly/Periodic Cadence: Promotions typically land 3 to 4 times a year. Recent windows have historically included late March/early April, June/July, August/September, and early December.
  • Duration: These sales are short-lived, usually running as brief flash promotions lasting anywhere from 6 to 10 days.
I should also make the obligatory community service comment that you should consider purchasing wine with bonus points as a typically better proposition.

Is it still better value if none of those wines are ones you’d want to drink?

This, even if the wine is gifted to others. I don't think buying points has ever offered better value, unless there was a major lack of wine specials.

On that point, there will probably be a lot of demand for QF Wine in early December (and potentially a lack of bonus points) so unless you have a 30 Nov anniversary it would be wise to purchase well ahead of D-Day.

Yes, that's my understanding.

Excellent point.

Better value? No, fully agree. Some (exceptionally) limited valid use cases? Yes.

For reference, the cheapest cost for which a QFF point can be purchased during one of those bonus point purchase promos is around 1.8c/point. Most wine deals are at least that, if not better. And they come with wine! 😄

I've just been crunching some numbers.

In December, Qantas ran a 60% bonus on purchases over 100,000 points. 160k points @ $2730 = 1.706c per point. (purchases under 100k points only had a 25% bonus, so would've been well over 2cpp)

Right now, assuming you have Points Club Plus for 10% off wine, you can buy batches of 25280 points @ $426.60 = 1.688c per point.

The cost comes down further if you have a $50 voucher, and you have more flexibility to purchase smaller batches of points with no 100k minimum to hit the full bonus.

On Wine orders over $1000 you can also call up and usually get them to throw in at least an extra 5000 points to bring the cpp down further.

From 8 December, you’ll no longer be able to attain or retain Points Club, Points Club Plus or Green Tier.

As a current Points Club Plus member, you can continue to enjoy your benefits until 30 September 2027.

Currently Point Club Plus but with my membership year ending in ~30 days and being far off the target to retain it, my understanding is I’lI now keep it for the next membership year.

Not bad, Qantas!

I wonder why my email was different to yours?

I am a bit confused but hope this is true!! My membership year end is 31/8. I requalified for PC+ within this year so on my dashboard it says that I have benefits until 31/8/27 which is what I expected. Now I get this message:

"From 8 December, you’ll no longer be able to attain or retain Points Club, Points Club Plus or Green Tier. As a current Points Club Plus member, you can continue to enjoy your benefits until 31 August 2028. You can also continue to enjoy your Green Tier benefits until the retirement date."

So are they really throwing in another whole year? I haven't even reached the end of this membership year? I do hope so as any extra SCs on awards are welcome as I work down my 4900 left to achieve LTG! I've got over half a million points to spend so time to find some business class CR before 31/8/2028...

Per the FAQ:

"Members who successfully attain or retain Points Club or Points Club Plus before 8 December 2026, will continue to enjoy the benefits from the moment you unlock Points Club until the end of your next Membership Year."

That's weird. My year ends 30/9 and I just requalified for PC+. The email I received says that as "...a current Points Club Plus member, you can continue to enjoy your benefits until 30 September 2027."
The emails probably haven't factored in the current status of anybody who was requalified recently - just merely referencing a person's current PC status at the point time of the extract.

My email is also not exactly correct, as I have requalified earlier this month - and I expect to have PC+ until January 2028 in line with the FAQ.

What do you make of this situation? So if I attained PC+ last membership year, and I have managed to retain only PC this membership year, and my membership year expires before Dec 8 2026 -do I get PC, or PC+ or nothing for the next membership year?

Edit - based on your most recent post you take it as the current status as at the time of the email, is extended to the end of the next membership year.

The FAQ notes:

"You are a Points Club or Points Club Plus member and your current Points Club Membership ends before 8 December 2026."

"If you retain Points Club before your current Membership Year ends and before the 8 December 2026 retirement date, your benefits will be honoured for the remainder of your current Membership Year and for your subsequent full Membership Year.

If you don't retain Points Club before 8 December, you will keep your benefits until the end of your current Membership Year."

Based on the above, you should still have PC status in your next membership year.
