I've found it useful even if not flying for work. In fact more so!
Same here. Ideal for the open bar (G&T) and some decent desserts!

the point of arrival at the WP destination is to enjoy The Fancy perks that are part of the game deal and IMHO to achieve them by the lowest cost directly by you (helps if your workplace is funding YOUR flights or, if paying yourself, your home loan is done and dusted)
Row 4
priority queues at the GaTe and if needs be the call centre usually work & are helpful
luggage liberties perhaps more so with carry-on baggage
some interesting Op-ups (had a $29 JQ flight cancelled bumped to QF and ended up in J class - seemed to coincide with my status rollover date)
never any luck with upgrade requests
spa and showers a step up and appreciated during / after long hauls

however of course most these things are available through deftly (credit card churning and) booking F awards

been quite ambivalent about retention of WP Given coming from Radelaide where there’s been no J lounge.
And of course, we’ve all been short on international travel theses past few years.... but I do fancy the F lounge in sydney. So the another year extension is helpful With no need to stress nor spend (my own) cash to top up the SCs to get to the 100% LTG level...

Now being about 1200 Shy with the SC rollover of upto 500 SC, it’s a bit like the DSCs that you get without having to book DSCs..... IMHO being close is a matter of your judgment, and 300 more after considering planned travel plus rollovers. is probably line-ball on being a bridge too far if you are paying for it yourself but of course if there was a DSC.....

Hello,

This program year ending on November 30, I will fly enough with Qantas/JetStar to earn 610 status credits to maintain my Gold status. Next program year (starting December 1) I will begin the year with 250 rolled over status credits from this program year, 50 status credits from the loyalty bonus earned late this program year (and redeemed on December 1), 50 status credits from earning Qantas Green earned late this year (and redeemed on December 1) so 350 status credits. I've got a further 530 status credits worth of flights booked with Qantas to end of January (and potentially another 50 status credits loyalty bonus supposing one earns a loyalty bonus flying QF during the double status credits promotion) and another 50 status credits earning QF Green next program year and redeeming it there. So in theory 980 status credits by end of January if all goes well. At this point I'll have easily earned QF Gold through November 30 2024 but am wondering whether I should bother flying the extra 400 status credits or so to earn QF Platinum. An obvious benefit I see doing this is I'll have QF Platinum through November 30, 2024 and QF Gold through November 30, 2025 without doing any additional flying with QF (aside from the 1400 status credits earned in 2023). On the other hand, I'd like to maintain my Delta Gold medallion status next year if possible (need to fly approximately 50,000 miles with SkyTeam airlines to make that happen).

Hence my question for the esteemed audience is whether it makes sense to go for Platinum? What benefits would I notice day to day flying Qantas and OneWorld airlines that I wouldn't notice as a lowly Qantas Gold member (aside from slightly better lounges which is likely a moot point given my AmEx Platinum)?

Don’t bother with p1 it gives no better service than gold. I’ve been p1 for quite sometime and lifetime gold and half way to lifetime platinum before Covid and the experience was very good. Post Covid it’s rubbish. Cannot get upgraded with points, seats next to me not blocked even though gold members were having their seats blocked, which I don’t understand at all, these on international flights. I’m back flying internationally again every 2 weeks again unfortunately but will now give qantas the flick and try other airlines. I was in the first class lounge in Sydney the day and the food was cough as well. So far in the last 4 months I’ve only had one decent trip with qantas . Also contacting help desk forget it. Flew Thai business and it was very good
