To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

They certainly didn't choose the game of the round for you!
Considering where these teams are on the ladder relatively to one another it could be a close game.

The match of the round is probably GWS vs WB or ADL vs Richmond but you can never be sure. Sometimes matches between teams that are doing well can be very one sided.

I know right. Just means, as a tigers man, I won't be bothered to talk to the Loyalty manager and plead for LTP until they boot me out :D

It should be a fun experience tbh. Never been to a corporate box thing and while I despise both teams getting to take some friends along (some of who support the bluebaggers) gives a nice feeling

And hey it's a P1 invite so why not?

(I'd prob prefer to be watching Hawks v Saints tbh)

Exactly. Hope you enjoy it.

Well I had more fun than I expected at the footy (mostly due to a close, if scrappy, game). There were a mix of people there and it was interesting.

tbh didn't talk too much "shop talk" as this was really a social event and Georgia, being a passionate Sydney supporter was really into the game

however I did mention that a lot of people who had lit LTG felt there was "nowhere to go" post this, and mentioned LTP. Well she just laughed in the "I've heard this one before" kind of way. Also talked a little bit about the angst around QF9 changes but there wasn't too much to say there. Didn't really reveal anything

At any rate it was a lot of fun to go and a new experience for me to go to the 'G in a box and have comfy seats out of the wind and weather :)

Thanks P1!

Mrs Platinum One made a quick trip on Tuesday, MEL-BNE-MEL. It was her birthday and she was less than impressed to travel.

She was booked 4A outbound and 5F return. At the MEL QF J Lounge she was upgraded to 2A, much to her delight. Her first op-up ever, and on her birthday to boot!

I received an email from SST around midday saying they hoped she enjoyed her special day, and that they were glad to make her trip a little more comfortable.

Return leg, same treatment, upgraded to 1F, and a lovely bottle of Shiraz (with QF First sticker) given to her wrapped in the obligatory white napkin.

Whilst we have had some great experiences with P1, Grand Prix Ball x 3, Simulator, Opera etc, plus excellent service from them during flight delays, this has left a huge lasting impression on us both.

So is she a P1 as well as you? My first op-up ever due to my own status (WP) was on BNE-MEL earlier this year but then the flight was full and they had no choice but to bump someone up.

I doubt both her flights were full. It's hearing stories like yours that is encouraging to consider going for P1 sometime.

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

That makes it even better. Recognising that she's the spouse of a P1 and looking after her accordingly.

Brilliant SST performance there. I'm going to assume Partner Plat perhaps? either way makes being away from home on birthday just so much nicer. Kudos to SST for picking up on the bday. That's some great CRM work I reckon!

One of the better stories I've seen in quite awhile.

There seems to be a bit more care lately, or maybe it's the usual QF consistently inconsitent but I must admit I was surprised at the event last week (the footy)... I'd mentioned to Kathryn on the SST that I had woken up the day before with some sniffles and had just wondered if I got worse and felt maybe I couldn't go to confirm if my guests could, and she was fine with that.. I went(obviously) and the hosts enquired as to how I was feeling.

Now it's small thing, but it meant something that Kathryn had obviously taken the time to pass that on. Maybe just in the context of "He may not show up" but I felt cared about none the less.

These birthday upgrades are similar, but better - clear effort made (and follow up from the SST to boot), the special wine etc. That's truly above and beyond in my book.

should we all expect similar? nope not in my book (expecting stuff like this just leads to disappointment) but given a lack of real published benefits apart from the upgrade priority and stuff like the golf membership(don't care), epiqure premium blah blah where they can make a difference, they really can.

Kudos.

A couple of weeks back was offered the opportunity to attend a restaurant opening. As per usual not able to attend as I am interstate. To date I have not been able to accept a single invitation due to travel.

That being said I can comment on what I consider to be proactive customer relations. Earlier in the year I requested to be put in the mix for the simulator experience. As I am based in the southern states I was half suspecting that it would not happen. A couple of days after receiving the above offer I received a call from the SST, I answered and was already assuming bad news (flight related) was on the way.

The exact opposite, the initial conversation went a long the lines ......you requested a simulator experience back in (month), we noticed you have a flight out of Sydney on (date), we are wondering if you will be in Sydney on (date)........ conversation continued, the outcome is I am off to the simulator in the near future.

I was more than surprised by this proactive approach and appreciate the offer. Looking forward to the simulator. :)

Fun side effect of the email "glitch" yesterday had me receiving an "Your P1 status is up for re-evaluation soon" type of thing. Ignoring the fact in reality I have requalified for P1 in March, the email amusingly claimed my SC tally for the year to date was 72,600 (!) yet apparently I hadn't reached the 3,600 total? Computer says no!

Fairly amusing stuff up. I got this instead of the LTS/LTG email many others got.

gave me a bemused giggle.

How would one even earn 72k SC's in a membership year? Like a F r/t to LHR weekly wouldn't do it I don't think. Maybe with DSC :D

36 Fully Flex fares flown since the start of the calendar year.

Zero invites for anything received.

Looks like I'm not part of the Qantas Club purple circle.

I'm waiting to see what invites I'll get being ADL based. I don't mind going to a box at Adelaide Oval for the footy, to barrack for whichever team the Crows are playing ;)

Let's say there are circa 5000 P1's and lord knows how many CL's. The simple maths says there will always be many more people who "qualify" for events than there are tickets available in any given year.

I don't say we have to like it but the expectation of invites to events has always been much higher than the reality. It's only through forums like this one that we know what we are missing out on. Sometimes ignorance is bliss

You are a legend :D, I would hang on to this email and trot it out every now and then, just for bragging rights. 72k SC in a year, possible? I could not be bothered trying to work that one out. Put up a new post, ….”Can any one beat 72,600 SC in one year", some plane spotter will take it upon themselves and confirm or otherwise, calculating short J and F hops around the world several times over.

No purple circle, been in the club for 3 years, only 3 invites, the simulator was unexpected, however I did put in the request 5 months ago and did not think it would eventuate. These days I do not expect anything, to the next quote

I am ADL based, 3 invites have been x2 food related restaurant openings available via epquire but offered free to P1 plus guest and x1 invite to a basketball thing. I did not even know ADL had a team.

Although QF will never disclose how many CL’s and P1’s are out there I seem to recall a couple of years back the rumor was around 2500-3500 P1’s. If the rumor is correct your maths may also be correct. From observation, what seems to be an increase in targeted personal and general QBR 50% SC bonus offers and recent DSC offers there may be even more P1's. I think it was RichardMel posted Black is the new Gold, maybe this extends to White is the new Black.

I do not chase P1 status, it just happens due to travel, if it did not "just happen". I do not think I would be that disappointed.

Don't get me wrong the support from the SST is excellent when you need it and in these situations I would miss the support. Their ability to get me home earlier is always appreciated, even if it includes a recent complimentary downgrade from J to Y on the domestic leg connecting from delayed LH arrival.

Please, don't let RichardMEL's head get any bigger  ;). I'd hate to think that anybody would be bragging about that level of travel, they'd be forever jetlagged if flying internationally.

From my recollection of attending the P1 launch in SYD, those numbers were (at that point) pretty close. Wonder if I still have the video I took of AJ's speech, it may be in that...I'll have a look.

I'd think that with the better business conditions in some sectors, that is feasible.
