To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

I've been silent for almost a year on this - but instead of getting over it, time has not dampened my frustration. Platinum One and received a notice that I was receiving a Christmas gift from Qantas. I had received the book set the year before without incident. I received mobile notification on the day the package was to arrive and was at home with the house wide open for the rest of the day. Nothing arrived so I contacted the couriers (I think it was the beloved StarTrack from memory). They complained to ME, that Qantas had dumped all these deliveries on them with little notice and were struggling to deliver. Anyway, four attempts and numerous phone calls and promises of delivery - nothing - then I just gave up. I thought it was probably no great loss until I heard it was Krug! through these pages. Then I was angry. It annoyed me so much that I switched carriers for two more overseas flights and this meant I no longer qualified for Platinum One status. It may seem to some/many that a $300 bottle of booze is a petty reason to ditch P1 status, but if Red Roo still does peruse these pages, this is one reason a P1 bowed out. Not that there was any contact from Qantas when it happened.......

Yes, seems petty to me, but it must really mean something to you to induce your 3rd post in almost 6 years :) seems to happen when things are over promised and under delivered. Sadly the one thing you can count on with QF is that they are consistently incodistant :(

"Then I was angry" .... you should see someone about that ;)

Have you found the grass is greener after the switch? From what I read, they are both as bad as each other

Wow, I don't know where to start really.
StarTrack are pretty appalling but since they now send my stuff to the local PO it hasn't been much bother. That's a side issue. What is very poor is that QF did not follow up on the failure to deliver a gift to one of the top 0.01% (or whatever it is) of their frequent flyers.

After all the myriad posts in here and Chinese whispers over who gets offered what I really think it's time QF was more transparent and consistent about the soft non-flying related benefits. It really shouldn't be that hard. Otherwise there will always be P1s who read on AFF and elsewhere about what might have been and decide to move on.....

PS: The RedRoo is mortally wounded on here :(

Redroo is certainly long gone. Must have caused some real heartache for those here who were so strongly connected.

StarTrack has been broken by the same idiot running Australia Post. So many departures of the best staff is not helping. We have been moving business away from them now that the business is being run by a former banker.
We do miss Red Roo but we tend to use Qantas for just one of our five overseas runs a year. Being based in Perth we don't have much on offer from QF International.

Are you sure it was StarTrack? This post has conjured up memories of last year's debacle with the courier company contracted by QF for their Champagne deliveries.

Direct Couriers were appalling, in terms of basic service, attitudes, and - shall we say - veracity in reporting. I gave feedback to QF at the time, I recall. I trust that the courier never gets a commission from QF (or anyone else) again.

Perhaps you sacked the wrong company Damian68? :)
Then again, you may have had brilliant service - and Christmas gifts - from your new provider?
Where did you turn? And what has been your experience?

I'm still waiting for last year's delivery, but hope springs eternal.

My single experience this year was the redundant email from Lesley, admonishing me to "Book now" so as not to miss out on my "exclusive privileges and exceptional service" next year.

Oh dear! Need a "Dislike" button.
Have you sent her this feedback?

What type of situations did they try to help in?

Mostly trying to get rewards seats on flights.

FWIW I used to get a lot of op ups on domestic flights - maybe 1 in 3. I think P1 is really good having flown with many many airlines and held top status on multiple programmes. Just wish QF had more international routes on their own planes.

I agree this comes under the thread for P1 experiences, but I wouldn't directly blame QF for this.

I mean frankly a large company like this should be able to handle a bunch of deliveries... QF pay them to deliver the goods and it shouldn't be QF's issue if they can't handle a large number or not. If they accept the order then it's their internal issue. IMHO.

Anyway IIRC last year I got the delivery emails AFTER the bottle arrived, but it was a Sat morning and I was home when they showed up so I got it without incident :)

though last week I heard from a fellow resident in my building that the AP parcel guy doesn't even bother to actually stop by our building and just gets "delivery notices" in with the regular mail delivery - allegedly because parking where I live is "too hard" so they don't bother. Anyway I find this behaviour disgusting, but anyway.. that's a total side issue but it was interesting to hear that this goes on. bleh

OK just had to giggle

I just got an email from "Sendle" for my P1 chrissy gift (WOOHOO) saying it will be delivered tomorrow or Wed. that's fine(I hope!) but at the bottom of the email there's a big "Partners with..." list of logos.. first one? Velocity FF!

well I was amused.

now, bring on the safe delivery!

Got same email this morning from Sendle. If not reading this thread I would have no idea what's it all about and may have refused it (I don't accept registered mail from unknown sources). If anyone from QF follows this thread it will be wise to send some notification to members letting them know a parcel is on it's way (from Sendle), maybe without any further details if wanting to keep the element of surprise.

Same here, there is nothing in the message giving even an inkling of what the delivery is aboout.

Ahh. I received my champagne on 4 Dec, and was getting email from Sendle about a parcel from Hatcher. Like boomy, I don't accept mail/comms from unknown sources so the Sendle emails were going straight to delete without opening as potential malicious comms. Fortunately my deliveries all go to the work mailroom, and they kindly accepted on my behalf.

I was very happy to receive the gift, although as I said to my secretary, it's a present for flying too much!

Thanks to SST for helping me once again solving booking issues and thanks P1 team for the nice bottle of champagne. I've only had Comtes in the air so will be interesting to see how it tastes on the ground.

this is not directly a P1 or SST issue, but this Sendle mob don't inspire me.

Nowhere is there a tracking number or phone number for them.

Despite my best efforts I missed them yesterday by an hour. There was no note left in my letterbox nor a phone call - I only saw via the tracking page, which only seemed to update after a couple of hours.. and even then no contact info.. until this morning when it declares they failed to deliver so I should EMAIL them or maybe they'll be in contact. Seriously dudes why not provide a phone number and tracking info so I can call whoever the courier company is and deal with them? and more to the point why would the courier not call me (the number is in the booking info)?! Poor mob (I realise they just seem to be a 3rd party co-ordinating body for these things, but I am not inspired). Now I email to try and figure out how to sort this out.

(I know I could probably get SST to figure it out, but it's just not a great look - not that I blame QF)

thanks for the advice. I've opened a request with sendle for now as suggested. what a PITA tho. I just find the whole lack of information poor

- no advance notice from QF that hey expect something (I suppose it's supposed to be a surprise)
- then no info on the tracking page for direct contacts, numbers etc. (not QF's fault)

I wonder, if I'm a busy P1 who is out of town for these few weeks and the package is returned then what? they miss out? Not all of us have offices, building concierges or cats able to answer the door bell and sign for a package :)

anyway back to the P1 life :D
