To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

I agree, however that hasn't happened previously has it ?
Unless I've missed something with the Xmas closedown.

Previously P1s were sent to QP which was quite disappointing considering the low numbers.
Invite to CL can be nice perk when J lounges are overcrowded or closed for refurbishment.

This IRROPS P1 -> CL thing seems to be a new thing from the past weekend - first I've heard of it. Given it seems to have happened via anecdotal evidence in both MEL and SYD it is possibly a systemwide, or at least major hub wide, policy shift perhaps? No doubt airport managers have discretion in such matters and have used some common sense and it's a win win specially if CL's are not busy.

Hopefully this sort of thing will not be a one off.. not that we want "lounge crush" due to irrops or extreme situations but since these things do happen from time to time having some sort of policy/plan like this seems to be a positive step. (if there is one, that is :) )

Let's hope it is a policy shift and if it is it's a very positive one. I've been directed as a P1 to use the CL twice in Perth in the bad old days before the J lounge when the QP was the only option and due to delays the QP was an even bigger zoo than usual for that time.

I don't know any pop celebrities, but I know a number of high ranking company executives who are always loathed to be bowled up by some shareholder when travelling. Of course, as public figures they have to be polite, and usually are very polite, but I can see why that would be annoying.

Penegal, there is an amusing anecdote in today's Australian about a variant of this happening recently in the Sydney CL. The newly elected One Nation senator from WA (who spent much of his maiden speech in Parliament criticising the banks, and ANZ in particular) bailing up former ANZ CEO Mike Smith, apparently. Yes, I know he's a senator, therefore an ex officio CL of sorts, but it's still an example of the sort of interaction that more regular CL members would be keen to avoid.

no...was on EK on way back and flight was jam packed so remained in J.. never the less, the QF9 upgrade was much appreciated as was the note on the boarding pass from the P1 team!

P1 keep sending me invitations to events for dates I'm overseas, each time flying QF! Just shows how impersonal this programme is when they don't even bother doing simple check before sending out emails.

I know right?! How dumb!

a few months ago when the SST called me to congratulate me on another year of P1 I mentioned this to them... not in a rude way and trying to be subtle about well.. you could see I'm away as I am booked to fly to LAX during that time... the only response was don't worry it doesn't preclude you from receiving other offers

anyway I guess a P1 experience I had over the weekend was FA on trans tas J flight came to me (in roe 3) ahead of others to ask for my meal choice. Can only assume a status driven thing

Or very personal and simply astute to issue invitations that won't be taken up. I got no invitations across maybe 30 months as P1. Irrelevant now but I was sure my first invitation would be when I couldn't make it. Perhaps better not to get any in the end.

Also had some years with no invitations at all, combining with invitations couldn't attend due to being overseas I can count on one hand the number of QF sponsored events attended since the start of P1.

I suppose it's tough with the amount you guys travel. I've seen some P1's upset they don't get invited to anything (which is probably what it would look like if they didn't invite P1's to events when they were traveling.

Besides, trips may be cancelled our rescheduled (perhaps because of the invite if it were good enough!)

Think it's a bit of a conspiracy theory to suggest there's an effort to put out an invite to folks who can't make it.

A few AFFers received invites to the 787 event recently in SYD and some other things (SYD folks, for obvious reasons, get the best/most invites it seems).

I have had a few invites to the footy and stuff that I was about for so yeah it does happen

but really for me P1 is not about events and invites or even the Christmas gift (I still have not opened the Krug  ) - they are nice but not part of my expectations tbh. Would I have wanted to go to the 787 thing? You bet! Am I annoyed I got no invite.... not really.

each to their own of course
