To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

They’d probably choose revenue P1 passengers ahead of P1s on reward flights one would think. The numbers of solo P1 passengers would vary quite a bit depending on the route, time of day/week etc.
Possibly - I just don't know. But figure if you are P1 you are contributing a lot to the airline - the occasional upgrade is a little reward for that, rather than a reward for buying yet another revenue fare.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It depends on how you get upgraded. Agree revenue may take priority prior but once the doors are closed, as alluded to up thread I am not sure if the CSM knows you are a revenue or rewards PAX but they do know you are P1.

I’m also guessing as most of my dom flights are CBR-MEL-CBR I am way down the pecking order anyway

Ok get it now. As Juddles has in his signature block (and the "C" in "CL" is for Cheats!) I totally agree with your position.

Outside side of the CLP1 I have the same distain for the politician CL's as those SG DYKWIA types, just have not worked out which one is worse.

At least one of my P1 upgrades was on the CBR-MEL route so it does happen. Totally pointless as the J food post-breakfast is usually better in Y and it's never more than a 45 minute flight.

While us taxpayers are paying their fares, politicians mostly travel in J anyway at discounted rates and spend minimal time in the Lounges in my experience. There are far more unworthy CLs in my opinion. But hard to call them cheats - if QF invites some minor firm partner or a nobody state or federal public servant to be a CL member, not really that person's fault or cheating.

But yep, I'd like the CL lounge and better upgrade availability to be a P1 benefit. Culling the number of CLs would help make this possible.

It's not about being in Business as such as it's the recognition that you get an upgrade for free (though given the prices of Domestic Business you can pretend you're flying first!).

I would also agree for the CL lounges but of course that comes as now being a P1. I am curious on what percentage of those in the Dom J lounges actually are P1, I can't imagine there would be too many

Pretty easy to attain WP these days, so I reckon pretty few P1s as a proportion of pax in a Dom J lounge. Makes CL eligibility for P1s a very reasonable but valuable benefit in my opinion.

That said, don't know how many P1s there actually are, so allowing P1s access to CL lounges might just diminish that amenity of a quiet, uncrowded lounge.

Still reckon P1s are more worthy than a lot of CLs.

And my point about politicians is you aren't competing with them for upgrades on this route because they are flying J already. And the CBR routes are no more populated in J than other domestic routes in my experience. In fact, often pretty empty, at least outside of peak morning and early evening.

A reward for reducing the reward point liability :p

Finding the sudden need to be in the UK in 10 days' time (read: the need to escape the Adelaide Hills winter) I asked the lovely P1 team about the possibility of a First seat on QF1 and, Hey Presto, managed to get one. No way of knowing if a Platinum would have had the same result of course but I've never requested an F seat that close to departure, always several months out, so I'm very happy.

I assume you mean it was a request for an awards ticket? In my limited experience in that caper they have been fantastic. 0 failure rate so far.

Yes, an award ticket. I've had a 100% success rate for seat releases too, if you count being presented with a range of dates plus or minus a few days if the first choice is unavailable. I'm flexible when making requests for busy periods.

For QF rewards they seem to have become a bit easier. The only time I was ever knocked back for F rewards was over 2 years ago when requesting x2 F for +1 and daughter to the US. The knock back was annoying but a non issue I put them on QR F instead. When the ipad, laptop restrictions were introduced in early 2017 my +1 became a little nervous flying from the middle east to the US I called QF and they were happy to offer up F seats 3 weeks out however they stayed with QR.

More recently I had to call QF to finalise a reward booking and request seats LAX back to MEL. During the call the agent asked me if I wanted to change my EK F seats to the US (PER-DXB-JFK) to QF 1 and the agent found me connecting flights to NYC either AA or BA from LHR. She seemed a little perplexed why I would go on a one stop via DXB rather than 2 stop plus and extra day in London to get to the US and asked a couple of times if I was sure I did not want to travel with QF.

I think there is a thread on this site or FT that discusses QF changes to fares buckets that made it easier for the P1 and CL community.

I do agree P1 does seem to open the door for rewards, specially at short notice. Earlier this year being able to grab a F seat to LAX on fairly short notice saved me a lot of hassle, money and I had a good ride over... a clear benefit of P1

It does seem if they have A avail they will grant it. I just called res, not even the P1 team and it was "sure!"

Have I missed the latest Platinum One Briefing? Think it was late-March when the last one arrived.

Or perhaps has it just died a natural enhancement?

No great loss if the latter but part of me is/was optimistic it might actually have become better.

You beat me to it. Was going to post to say it was three months yesterday that the last briefing was issued.

Probably trying to coerce someone in for the "P1 on the quarter" interview of nothingness to publish :D

I'll spit the dummy if I don't get it before 23:59 AEST 30th June!!!!

Since my footy team got good I'm not doing anything to my membership card, so the white may have to go into the microwave....

Was in 4C BNE/CNS yesterday. Apart from standard welcome back at the door the CSM came up after takeoff to introduce herself and ask if there was anything I needed then just to ask the flight attendant looking after the economy cabin. I've sat before in Row 4 and never received any special greeting so I was quite surprised. I suppose every CSM runs their flight differently.
