Can anyone answer this :?:
Have noticed that of late Qantas flight QF1 is departing late from Sydney.
Qantas claim that it is because of an operational problem. Would not say why. Thing is it seems to happen every few days . Not just a little late but hours late. Very frustrating. Anyone know why this particular plane is the one chosen to be late? Also, noted QF31 to also be picked on for late departures.
Why????

Possibly because many LHR-destined passengers are terminating their journey at LHR and hence a 2-4 hour delay on an early am arrival does not make a huge difference in their travel schedule, while a similar delay on tran-Pacific routes means significant schedule disruptions.

oh, gawd, please no .... don't let Downunder airlines follow the North American habit of thinking they can get away with flying when they jolly well feel like it ...

Well I have been keeping an eye on Qantas flights and their departure times. Flights are leaving habitually later than than scheduled.Anywhere from 30 min to 4 hrs late
One in particular seems to be leaving late that is QF1 This flight is Sydney-Bangkok-London.
It is leaving late every 3rd day!!!
All Qantas can say is that it is "operational" EG.. staffing issues, late passengers or, mechanical. Every 3rd day?????

How late are they departing? Are they able to make it up over the next 22 hours of flying?

Yesterday QF1 departed 2 hours late, arrived BKK 75 minutes late, departed BKK 41 minutes late and arrived LHR 55 minutes late.

The day before QF1 departed 9 minutes late, arrived BKK 16 minutes late, departed BKK 75 minutes late and arrived LHR 97 minutes late.

According to the Sydney Aiport web site :)

I use the Flight stats website. I assume it is accurate.

I notice that I have entered todays date by accident. It is scheduled to be late by 2 hours tonight?

Ok, I'm on BA3711 (AKA QF1) this evening. :(

6:30am SMS as well as call from QF at 8:45 to advise of 7pm departure (rather than 5pm).

Looking at scheduled, only late QF aircraft inbound 744 to Sydney is as follows:

QF64 Johannesburg 13:55 17:15 Estimated

I expect Qantas are allowin 105 minutes to turnaround the aircraft.

I have not the time myself ATM, but you may look for similar late inbounds on the days when QF1 ran late.

Yup, the infamous VH-OJH has just landed in SYD operating QF64 JNB-SYD and will operate your delayed QF1 service tonight. Every Friday, the aircraft operating JNB-SYD will almost always then go on to operate QF1 to BKK and LHR.

I remember reading some time ago that QF1 was often delayed due to maintenance reasons. I think you'll find that the aircraft operating QF1 most days operate other flights into SYD which arrive not long before QF1's departure time - why there may also be delays - delayed inbound flight affects the outbound flight.

Rgds

 Serfty,
thanks for your info reguarding the late departure of QF 1. Why is it that Qantas couldn't or wouldn't give us this information.

Be rest assured that i will be watching this QF64 from this date forward with interest.

Have a good flight.

Boarded 18:45, push back 19:17 (Qantas.com says 19:10, don't you believe it  ) Take-off at 19:27

Landed into a Wet BKK at 1:17 and arrived E10 at 1:22, some 2:07 minutes late.

The scheduled flight time was announced by the CSM before departure as 8:45. Actual 8:50 minute flight time.

Interestingly the Captain basically said in his welcome announcement that they did not expect to make up any time on the route.

The schedule to BKK allows 9:15 minutes, so there's not a great deal of padding there.

That is something I have noticed many times on QF domestic flights in NZ. Sometimes the published times on qantas.com are a load of rubbish. If qantas.com shows as being late then definitely is late but could be much more than stated. If qantas.com shows as being on time is no guarantee that it actually was.

Still, QF isnt the only airline to practice such trickery. On a recent BD flight from LHR we closed doors early and pushed back 1 metre to indicate on time departure. Then sat at the gate for a while, taxiied a short distance and sat at holding pen for a while longer, and eventually reached the active departure runway more than an hour behind scheduled departure time. The reason - there was a passing light shower (described as "heavy" by the pilot on the PA but sure didn't look it out either side).

Dragonair did this to me yesterday - pushed back on time and then sat on the runway for an hour waiting to take off. The pilot blamed sever cross winds for the problem - I dint believe that until we actually took of and the wings gave beijing airport a decent wave for the first few minutes of the flight.

At least this time we didnt go back to the point of origin and try again... the trip report is coming - honest...

This seems to happen to me aboard UA quite often, most recently ex-LAX for 45 minutes while the pilots tried to fix a problem with one of the onboard computers (as explained by the Captain, which I'm sure most of the pax found very comforting:shock: ).

Let's face it - referring to these events as "on-time" departures stretches the limits of credulity.
