QF 71 PER-SIN has had a flight departing about between 1200 and 1300 as long as I can recall. Though JQ and 3K have frequently (recently) been more useful when connecting to other flights on separate tickets.

Be aware that QF 71 as of 26 Oct 2025 will depart at 1030
Moe useful for Perth residents when connecting in SIN, but with a 5 hour drive to the airport, JQ will become more "useful"
Though that will mean 3 flights on Tu/Th until JQ 99 (2335) is discontinued after 25 Nov.

Hope that helps someone's wandering
Fred

I wonder why the change?

Looks like QF72 (SIN-PER) will still leave at 18:45 (arriving back in PER right before midnight), so the A330 now sits on the ground in SIN almost 3 hours.

The new QF71 schedule actually provided East Coast residents a much needed early arrival into Singapore.
QF71 now arrives SIN at 1555, and it allows connection to CX716 instead of the 8pm departure to HKG.
Those in East Coast can hop on the 6am departure ex-SYD, then connect with QF71 and will score themselves 180 SC + early arrival into Singapore - just in time for afternoon tea at Tsui Wah in Jewel.

Checking FR24 it’s not often the same plane flying back to Perth as came up. It happens on some days, but in other days a different aircraft forms the 72.

I'm not sure what I make of this. On the one hand, getting into SIN a bit earlier is ideal, but missing out on working for the morning in PER before leaving is less ideal.

I wonder if part of the reason is to ease congestion in the PER lounge? There really is only space of a single flight worth of pax at a time.

Can't see that they care much about who and what number is in the lounge tbh. It might be that they think it is a better time to compete with the three daily SQ?...noting however that QF don't really do competition....😁

Can't see them thinking much about east coasters wanting to connect at PER to HKG either that much tbh.

There’s four SQ daily now ex-Perth.

Remember also the AKL and JNB services are due to start in Dec, moving 71 to 1030 means it (theoretically) gets out before the arrival from AKL, which only has 2 hours to turn around for JNB dep.

When the times came out, there was discussion here about not having enough intl gates in T3, this appears to be the solution.

QF71 is usually operated by the same aircraft that arrives as QF767 from MEL at 0850, so if this stays the same they're effectively reducing time on ground in PER for more time on ground in SIN.

The other consideration might be that PER passengers can utilise QF9/10 and QF33/34 so timing the flights for connections from SIN to Europe are less vital compared to the East Coast flights.

I tried to do that a couple of years back (as part of a DSC run), only for the SYD-PER flight to be so badly delayed I was rebooked on a direct SYD-SIN flight and had to chase up the extra SCs. I've always been tempted to try again may mean a night in Perth just to be sure.

Could make it "more interesting" if they will still have the Sydney to Busselton, via PER ofcourse, then Perth to Singapore ...(I'm sure when I looked the price Sydney to Busselton was cheaper than Perth to Busselton!! 🙄😁

It would be nicer if this had been bought forward. Doing a “day” flight back from SIN to SYD/MEL is possible if you don’t mind sleeping in a bed o/n in a PER hotel before a leisurely mid morning (or sparrows if you prefer) onward departure. But the late arrival into PER is a bit of drag.

Think most Aussie departures ex SIN are around that same time in the evening? When I do it I see build up in lounge for a few Aussie departures...

Would be nice if QF72 departed a little earlier so you don't get home at such an awful time. Even just an hour.

PER is first cab off the rank at 7:35pm (at the moment).

Although, as an aside, tonight’s a shocker - delayed dep 11:55pm / arr PER 5am (presumably late in bound from MEL?) and I recall seeing here a few months ago that T3 Immigration / Customs close for a couple hours…so QF72 gets held back…

I like the earlier departure, this is perfect for kids and to get the weekend started. But the trip home is the reason (outside of cost) that I never book QF on this route. Too late for the kids. 2-3 hours earlier would be the dream.

QF114 to DRW also departs around the same time as PER, currently scheduled for 7.20pm.

Getting the PER flight out of SIN an hour earlier would also help with lounge crowding in SIN. The F lounge starts getting pretty busy around 6pm as the inbound QF flights start arriving. Not that the numbers on QF72 are going to be huge, but it would help a little.
