Can't recommend Singapore enough at the moment. Everything is in full swing, just with masks. Everyone is very happy to see tourists back and the hawker markets & nightlife have definitely recovered. I type this while sitting in a Grab to Geylang Serai to check out the Ramadan night markets!
I had a great time in Singapore back on Feb and with Japan and Taiwan still not open, I'm inclined to visit again over our winter tbh. Especially with outdoor masking gone.

That's amazing to read - heading there tomorrow.

Just a note to say I would probably give Geylang a miss, it ended up being smaller than pre-covid years gone by and had some ridiculous queues as the space was capacity limited.

But the other usual suspects for cheap eats like Maxwell, Chinatown Complex, Hong Lim, Old Airport Rd, etc are all going great. The lack of tourists means way shorter queues for Michelin/Bib Gourmand stalls, especially if you go pre 11:30am or post 2pm to miss the lunch rush. Went to Hawker Chan yesterday and only queued for about 10 min, granted he was demoted from 1 star to Bib last year but that sort of wait is unheard of, and the chicken was still really good!

Also, a bit niche, but a serious local craft beer scene has developed over the past couple of years especially out of hawker stalls - if you're interested in beer definitely check out Welcome Ren Min @ Maxwell, Hello Ren Min @ Old Airport, Smith St Taps @ Chinatown Complex. Everything I've tried by Alive Brewing or Pink Blossoms Brewing has seriously exceeded expectations. Pink Blossoms also has a tasting room where you can BYO food but it's a bit outside the CBD - can take a train & walk 10 min, or just catch a Grab.

(Sorry for the off-topic posting, this should probably be split off into a Travelling to Singapore in 2022 thread in another subforum! I will probably do a trip report when I get back home)

In both staying there and planning on eating at Old Airport Rd

Got my reply from Qantas approving my exemption - took 26 hours, 44 minutes, with the paperwork submitted 5 days before the flight.
