Qantas panned in US travel magazine : thewest.com.au

A leading American travel magazine has panned Sydney Airport and Qantas in an annual poll of readers.

The Conde Nast Traveler magazine's annual survey of business world travellers, published in its October edition, gave Australia’s busiest airport a 48.2 rating out of 100, Fairfax newspapers report.

Singapore was named the best international airport with a 79.8 rating.

I'm going to have to find the stats behind this:

Embattled airline Qantas - which has weathered damage to its safety record in recent times - ranked seventh in a list of 10 airlines offering business class flights on trans-Pacific routes.

Gotta wonder who is 8th, 9th and 10th!!!

I can't see where Qantas were panned, and it has nothing to do with airlines flying Trans Pacific.

I am sick of these media beat ups.

Indeed! The saddest thing is that there are probably about 60+ airlines that didn't even make it in the top-10.

Media has gone mad. Perhaps they need some mad cow remedies or something...

I'm still trying to figure this out - it seems to make little sense.

I makes no sense to me. Next the media will be reporting that Qantas provides very poor service in all classes on Trans-Atlantic flights....

Well I must have been flying on the B-grade British Airways earlier this year, as every flight I had the displeasure of travelling with them on was absolutely awful.

In no way shape or form even close to the QF experiences I have had. Yet they rate higher than QF..............that will do me.

The inaccurate reporting of the survey results aside, Conde Nast Traveler is read by wealthy Americans and those readers would form the majority of survey respondents. I've met quite a few wealthy Americans in my travels and most of them have only experienced Qantas when visiting Australia and even then that is something they have generally done only once, if at all.

I think this explains the relatively high rankings given to carriers operating trans-Atlantic and Asian routes. I think it also helps explain why Air New Zealand is ranked higher than Qantas - because a lot of these wealthy Americans enjoy the high end lodges of New Zealand (it's an accommodation category that we have sadly not been able to quite recreate here in Oz) but often don't make it all the way to Australia.
