Looking for some advice please.
We've always been Qantas FF members and paying all business expenses thru connected QF Cards has meant we have flown almost every year for the past 15+ years First class on points to Europe from Australia. We are only Bronze QFF members. We have 2.5m points. We did pay a couple of years ago for an EK First flight so have approx 140k of points with them. We are Blue Status. We LOVE EK and prefer to fly with them and also prefer transiting tru DXB given a single stop, as my hubby is mid 70's and has just been diagnosed with dementia.
We are heading to Portugal in September and because of the change to EK rules you have silver status with QF to use points for First. (Just a note we are traveling to Europe again in July next year)
We are happy to pay for our First class flights this year to go EK Mel-DXB-LIS return. Our hope is that we will get our silver status so that next year we can use points to fly First to Europe.
So am I better to buy tickets from EK directly or from Qantas.? Am l better to earn the points for these flights from EK or QF.? Am l even able to earn silver status by flying EK.?
Sorry for all the questions but there are so many new rules...and limited offerings....l am just trying to make the most of our points now.

Thanks for any advice or any pointers on something l've missed. 😊

FWIW If you have an Amex platinum CC you get a good discount off EK F flights using the International Airline Program plus a travel credit. If we can’t get QF points flights, we buy F thought my Amex card and Amex travel. Generally slightly cheaper than through QF or a TA with no CC surcharges. You can book as either EK or QF code share to get FF points as you wish.

We don't have an "Amex" plat but the friends who we are traveling do., so maybe look at that. Thank you for that advice,
