I often get shunted to the rear of the plane. I have to do an online seat change to manually change to a forward seat. That is if there are any available! OLCI'ed this morning for MEL-PER at around T-22:30. The process was a little flakey (got several error msgs including telling me it couldn't check me in online, and alleging I had dangerous goods when I had said no I didn't) but in the end, after some persistence and repetition of certain steps managed to change my seat (to 5E, which seems to be a popular seat among people here, on a 743, let's hope I keep it :) ) and to print boarding pass Seq #1 !

If I have the opportunity I'll OLCI the return and actually record any errors I get.

23 hours and fifty minutes before I am due to fly home from Perth to Sydney I go to the system and try to check in. Some ridiculous cryptic message comes up telling me that I made my booking in another community. What the hell does that mean?

I call QF and ask them why I can't check in. They explain that I am booked through Sabre or Galileo and as it is not Amadeus I fail to have the right type of booking. WHAT??????

They tell me that their pathetic system can only handle Sabre or Galileo bookings. How do I know I ask???? I fly on a ticket that my work's travel agent arranges for me. Is this not the case with all of you business travellers on this site? Apparently if you can do OLCI you business travellers don't book through agents as QF tell me that 95% of travel agents use the Amadeus system. Bullsh!t I say.

BA have had a great system for a long time. I have never flown vermin but people say it works. The wackers at QF then scream lookamoi, lookamoi, we are clever too. Ba]]s.

Don't patronise and tell me to fly with someone else. Obviously there is only Branson's blue buggy as an alternative and clearly I want points and SCs. I just want the same ability to check in on line as the backpacker who bought his ticket via the net and can choose a seat 23 hours before I front up to the queue.

Their attitude. Bear with us sir, it is only a new system and it has experienced some teething troubles.
 
How annoying! But seeing as Qantas just sacked their local staff and outsourced their IT OS - good luck having that fixed any time soon...

Can I attach images here: check this out for annoying++. 24 hours before my CBR-SYD tomorow at 5pm, These are my seating options (see screen dump)

First choice - row 15???

OK - perhaps unconventional to reply to my own postings - but aside from being able to hold a converstation with myself - I just logged into OLCI again. Time=7pm, 22 hours before departure.

I now have available to me nearly every row before row 15... my default option was still 15, but I moved my seat pref forwards to row 6.

Cool - so the solution to this somewhat-flakey qantas olci seat preferencing is, in this instance, to wait.

I've found this too - I've checked in before (Seq no 1) and then gone back about 6-8 hours before the flight and re-assigned seats, as there are usually more seats available then!

Well it is a CBR flight; there's more CL's/WP's per capita there than elsewhere in the world. (Note it's a 734 with all 20 J seats active; WHY starts at row 6)

(It's been Joked that out of CBR, some PS's get allocated seats in the rear galley; at least they don't have to push the call button to get a drink :p)

It's likely this is due to those with Flexible booking types changing flights.

Another issue is that many companies use fully refundable bookings to ensure their upper echelon have access to flights if there is chance they may be required; these are subsequently cancelled on the day thereby releaseing the pre-allocated seat.

sully - I book all my domestic business flights online via the website (both QF and DJ). I only use my TA for international flights and they do it via Amadeus. :-|

The Virgin Blue system does work very well, and depending upon the fare type purchased you can seat yourself pretty much wherever you want on the aircraft. I think this is because they don't have to deal with FF status.

Nonetheless QF's system seems to be biased even against those with status. My guess is that they are trying to leave their check-in agents with as much flexibility as possible to allocate seating for the majority who probably don't check-in online. The moral of the story is that you are probably better off checking in at the desk when you arrive or in the QP if you don't have baggage to stow.

ROFLMAO!!!!! :D I love the caption under the image: "Plane not to scale." Clearly the programmer is a fan of The Simpsons. :D

Not just upper echelon. For out of town meetings it is policy to have a flexible ticket for the return in order that can take the best flight possible after the meeting is finished.

Was the flight visible under your FF profile's My Bookings page? If so, that should show the Amadeus booking reference and then it should not matter what GDS was used to make the booking, you should still be able to OLCI using that Amadeus booking reference.

You cannot do OCLI using a Galileo or Sabre booking reference. But just because the booking was made with Galileo or Sabre should not stop you obtaining the Amadeus booking reference from QF Telephone Reservations (they just need your name and flight details to locate it) and using that Amadeus booking reference to OLCI.

I know people here who have booked through aa.com (i.e. Sabre) and have located their Amadeus booking reference and successfully used OLCI.
 
There is one other advantage in printing your own boarding pass ..... you are unlikely to check in someone else!!!

On my trip to Darwin last week I self checked-in 24 hours before (Seq Nbr 1) and had no problems with the boarding pass at the gate. On the return I decided to use the desk as I was travelling with a non-status colleague (also called Andrew) who had to check some luggage. I handed across my QC card and my colleague showed his drivers licence, and then I asked for 2 parallel aisle seats. We got 22C and D and headed up to the QC.

At the reception I pulled out my boarding pass to show the DB and thought "Oh - I must have kept the wrong one .... there's no QC SILV printed on it." I then looked at the name and saw that I had Arthur's boarding pass. ARTHUR??!!?? I left this problem with reception and they printed out new BPs in the right name and for row 9 (thank you).

So in between swiping my card and booking the seat the guy on check in had managed to pick up another passenger with the same surname and initial. Obviously there is no electronic link between the FF system and the passenger list, and coincidence and carelessness could see you doing a bit of accidental identity theft.

I copped one of those odd 'another community' messages when trying to OLCI PER-MEL yesterday morning. I came to the conclusion (incorrectly, as it turned out) that it was because I had changed my FF number from QF to AA on the outbound leg, and just marked it down to experience. In the afternoon I re-thought, and looked at checkmytrip.com and realised I had got my booking reference number wrong, managed to get it correct and was able to OLCI ok. The 'another community' error message is rather misleading in these circumstances (though getting my ref number right in the first place would have helped :oops: ). Not suggesting sully got his ref number wrong, but maybe that the 'another community' is a somewhat generic error message returned by the process when various things go wrong.

Yes for FFP purposes and no for service.:mad:
The aircraft are not even Australian registered and the majority of the crews are New Zealanders. It is a domestic service and I have no idea why QF does not treat it as such. However if they want to call it international I will take the food and free drinks!;)
