So booking an amazing bucket list trip to Exmouth (via Melbourne and Perth) out of Sydney for July, I made a mistake. 4 flights were classic rewards. But I booked one leg of points plus pay to get the right date as we had to return by a certain date. It was a few thousand points more so did not seem a big deal. Silly me did not realize how much that changed cancellation policy (I accept this is entirely my mistake). Market value for the dates for 5 passengers was 6000 but Paid 370,000 points and $800 cash. On canceling on the Qantas website was offered a credit of $1600 and no points. I was highly unimpressed (to say the least). Qantas hung up on me three times. Did not answer Facebook. Fourth time I got through I was offered a call back.
so now I have 800 back in my credit card and all points after arguing ALOT! I offered to take a flight credit for the800 to help the airline out but they said it was not possible and I had to have a refund if I wanted points back.
Was not happy with the valuation of my points.
Happy with the outcome and I have learned NEVER mix your bookings!!!!!

No argument that P+P is generally bad value, but this predicament can also be avoided by creating one PNR for the classic award legs and another PNR for the P+P leg.

Glad you got a positive outcome though @Scarletlab
