All about options, and being direct you have an advantage which might give a yield premium. Both CDG and FRA would have some Business traffic

The reported 236 seat QF 787s would fall within 0.5 "units" under the France Air service agreement, which would allow 6 flights/week (3.0 units) to mainland France.

It will be interesting to find out how much the WA Government is funding this completely private venture (privately owned airline and privately owned airport). As Colin has reportably been invited to the announcement, I assume it is a reasonable amount (above what has been previously commited).

I give the direct flight about 18 months and by the end of 2019 it will be PER-DXB-PER only, as QF will have to operate that flight to satisfy their 'commitment' to PER.

It would be very interesting indeed to see how much of our money Colin is throwing at this situation - and I'm sure it's got nothing at ALL to do with the upcoming State election in March.

I can't see this direct flight arrangement lasting long either - I just don't think there's going to be the demand for it out of PER.

Wouldn't disagree with that, FRA & CDG seem to the next most popular destinations and probably have OK premium traffic. But you'd think the likes of AMS, MUC, ZRH, MXP etc would be ahead of FCO on that score.

All noises indicating that WA and QF have reached a deal. Pretty exciting news, especially for our often neglected Perth AFF members :)

Will be interesting to see what the pricing is like for MEL/SYD - PER - LHR compared with MEL/SYD - DXB - LHR.

For the 100th time, QF cannot fly PER-DXB. It is prohibited under the agreement with EK.

First I've heard of this. Has this been documented/announced?

Seems quite a limitation that QF has accepted. Alan Joyce mentioned the possibility of Per>DXB>Ber soon after the EK deal was announced so I'm surprised to hear this!

Interesting that it will operate from the domestic terminal in PER. Would definitely make transiting from eastern states easier. I would certainly give this a try just for the novelty factor (even though it would mean no F lounge, at least you don't have to go through the desert).

Some excellent detailed analyses on here.

When flying economy ultra long haul, which sadly still happens more often than I'd like, my flight choices are based on duration of legs and transit airport, as well as my preferred carriers and price of course.

I prefer to break up the flight, even at horrible airports (DXB - ok it's not that bad, but it's not great), rather than take very long legs. I know plenty of other people look for the same.

I think this would be a hard sell for a lot of economy passengers, 17.5 hours at the back of the bus will be hell.

17.5hrs not much different to 15+ for SYD/MEL-DXB. Once you're going long haul.

Flight times will probably make it for me. On ultra long haul I generally prefer a morning arrival, though ideally not 5/6am.

Force yourself to stay awake for the day, get some sunshine and the body clock issues should sort themselves out

Let's break it down
Say 18 hours walk on walk off

1 hour f the plane to reach cruise and seat belt sun comes off
2 hour for meal service
meal service in the middle??? - snack onQ style
3rd meal service? Snacks onQ ?
1 hour for approach

That leaves about 12 hours
Say 4 hours watching movies on IFE

That leaves 6- 8 hours of boredom. Great if lie flat. But in Why???

Whats the longest you have stayed awake and watched movies inflight?

Comfort's the only issue for me. I never have the least problem entertaining myself on a flight, blissfully free from work and other interruptions.

Qantas to axe Melbourne-Dubai-London Airbus A380 QF9/QF10 flight? - Australian Business Traveller

"A Qantas source, speaking with Australian Business Traveller on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said Qantas’ plans to pull out of the Melbourne-Dubai-London route were driven by concerns that the debut of the non-stop Boeing 787 service between Perth and London would over-saturate the Kangaroo Route with more seats than passengers."

Significant news!

Really hope there is more to QF's plans than swapping MEL-DXB-LHR with MEL-PER-LHR. LHR is a horrible airport to transfer in for anyone wanting to access continental Europe.

PER requires a long bus trip to change terminals, horrible lounge. No thanks. I'll stick to my MEL-HKG-HEL-X on the A350 instead thanks!

2 hour for meal service

Hahahaha!!! QFi can't do a meal service in business under about 3 hours. Glaciers move quicker. Add a bar service and it's already 1/4 of the way to London :p

(in economy they'll just leave the finished meal trays in front of you even longer. That'll take up some time.)
