Qantas New Check In Seating Allocation

From BNE to MEL the seat is 4D on a 73H! (one of the two best WHY seats on that aircraft IMHO)
Serfty, is good for eyeballing what is being served in J and counting empty J seats, is not good for comparing what you (may) get in Y, apart from leg stretching/crossing ability.

Since the new system was introduced, how is everyones experience with op-upgrades. My parter is WP, and he is getting upgrades to business on domestic flights on a more regular basis with no request/point required. At the point of scanning the boarding pass he is getting rejected, and issued with a J seat.
I was lucky enough to be a 'victim' of this when we flew to Tokyo together. We both were bumped to J from Y. We are going to stop using points to request upgrades and see if the luck continues!

This might be a reflection of some company policies dropping from J to whY due to the credit crunch thus reducing whY capacity.

... This one I find even harder to understand. You have a seat allocated for a domestic flight that is 2 days away? So all the speculation we read on AFF and FT about seating allocations for domestic flights happening in the 24 hours before the flight is just garbage....
Not Garbage at all, in fact it's more consistant.

In thinking about this today, I have considered that this Altair system allows QF to apply the seating algorithm at any time. No issues with the few intinternational cnx PAX that may require a day or three in advance..

Can someone please confirm which 767 is operating QF553 BNE-SYD tomorrow Friday 27 February? I think it is an international configuration, no 23ABF or 24AB, but I want to be certain.

I used OLCI at T-23 hours to find I was allocated 28F with 4 spare aisle seats in front of me. As 23E was vacant I selected this seat but could be an issue if there is an aircraft substitution, flight looks lightly loaded, sometime before the flight.

Domestic flights can in some cases allow through checkin from other ports eg at LHR if travelling LHR/SYD/ADL you should be able to get both boarding passes in LHR. Checkin still won't be open locally for pax joining in SYD for ADL however internet checkin can be done at minus 24 hours.

This will sometimes mean that a couple travelling from further afield will get the pick of the crop eg 4AB on a 737-800 on the SYD/ADL flight and essentially queue jump ahead of CLQF, FFPL etc.

The pax may not necessarily ask for these seats but system may just automatically give them a forward seat and as pax would be sequence no's 001 and 002 they may get first row of economy.

Don't know whether QF know how to stop this happening in Altea - guess it takes a while to nut out and overcome the glitches.

Cheers

Actually, since I am WP, this is the type seating I would have expected if using OLCI at T-24.

I think Altea was already at work ... which I find quite interesting.

If 23F is missing then it's an international config.
"Bendigo" is currently your beast which is consistent with a missing 23F.

I looked again last night and 23D was vacant so I took that instead. It would appear that the remaining aisle seats down to row 28 were snapped up so I am lucky I got in early.

Keep checking through the day; things can change many times between T-24 and T-0.5.

Well, I OLCI last night for BNE-MEL today.

Preallocated 11C on the 734 so i'm happy. :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Seems to be happening to me a lot these days (getting exit rows) - no idea why! Not going to ask either lest it changes!

Unless there is an aircraft substitution, very possible given my luck, 23D is about as good as I am goint to get unless I get an op-up.

How is a Silver pre-allocated exit rows? Is there somehow a note in your profile even though exit row is not of the options?

Exit Row seats when using OLCI

There are still some non-believers out there who get out to the airport early to ask for exits then get annoyed when told there are none available due to people checking in on the internet.

Pax then get angry and say "that's not possible you can't get exit row seats doing online checkin I've tried".

The thing is you don't try it just happens that way sometimes same as it does if someone checks in at the airport with a checkin agent without specifically requesting an exit row.

DocJames would be funny if next time you get an exit row one of the non-believers overhears you saying "I checked in online but couldn't print my boarding pass because I've been seated in an exit row". :p :p

Anyone can ask reservations to put a checkin comment in to say "rqst exit row pax 6foot4" whether they are a frequent flyer or not. Don't know whether every res person would do this as just because someone says they're tall doesn't necessarily mean they are. Res may just hand ball it back to pax and tell them to checkin early etc which as we know doesn't always work.

But even though a checkin comment is there (will show as "CKIN" alongside pax name) the checkin agent has to look further into customer details to see what comments are there - it still relies upon whoever is doing the preflight check 24-48 hours prior checking the SR (special request list) which may sometimes 30 plus comments on it already and could be easy to miss alongside all the other bits such as WCHR MAAS UMNR PARK VLML OTHS etc.

The busier the airport the less likely I would say they are to monitor this list.

On a good day you may find someone at preflight may preallocate an exit row to a pax with such a comment subject to being sighted at checkin as suitable to occupy the exit row.

Don't need to be Silver even (though has only happened to me once)!
Do you mean Bronze or even non-QFF members, or Oneworld equivalent, have been pre-allocated exit row seats on domestic flights? I do not understand how anyone, with exception of CL, can be pre-allocated an exit row using OLCI or QuickCheck!

Perhaps the flight is so full of passengers with low status that they ran out of middle seats and then had to allocate the last remaining seats. It is not as if the passengers sitting in exit rows for a lot of my flights should be there in the first place anyway.

Anyone can ask reservations to put a checkin comment in to say "rqst exit row pax 6foot4" whether they are a frequent flyer or not.
How do you update your QFF profile to highlight a preference for exit row seats? I can understand this happening for 1 flight and even then it would not be pre-allocated at OLCI or QuickCheck but you would have to ask at check-in if exit row is available.

There appears to be a glitch in the system and passengers are being pre-allcoated exit rows.

Still "Bendigo" ...

ISTR There were some posts recently about how to get this onto your profile ...
