Interesting new magazine....

Qantas mag goes against the trend | smh.com.au

ACP Magazines is launching a magazine for Qantas frequent flyers amid questions over the future of inflight magazines as airlines look to scale back onboard publications to reduce weight because of record fuel prices.

The publisher will unveil the title, Air, this week. It plans to mail it four times a year to members of Qantas's chairman's lounge and platinum frequent flyers, who account for about 1 per cent of the airline's 5 million members.

So confirmation that there around 50K of WP and CL members...

The story about this on page 53 in todays Fin Review has 15000 CL & 25000 Plat. Seems a lot of CL to me and too few Plat. When QF were subject to the takeover higher numbers were mentioned for Plat's.

Another piece of Quality Journalism ...

A very dubious connection between the article title and any information promoted in the body text.

Perhaps they are to be distributed via Air-Mail? :p

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Or dubious connection between the first and second paragraphs. But do you expect any better from the trashy tabloid that smh has become?

Agree CL at 15,000 sounds very high,
although remember they do appear to grant CL fairly liberally to the CLs immediate family, so you may only have 3-4k actual CLs which seems more reasonable

It would be a shame if QF did do away with the monthly in-flight mag. I actually find it a really enjoyable read - plenty of excellent restaurant/bar/event tips around Australia too.

Far better than AA's offerings.

There's no plan to do away with it at the moment.

Gotta wonder:

"Targeting travellers worth more than $2 million "

Do companies really think that QFF Plat / CL 's have an average Net Worth of $2 Mill + ? Is that inclusive or exclusive of their primary place of residence? Inclusive or exclusive of their debts/Negative Gearing? Combined family incomes and assets?

Some members here would have net worth of over $2 mill based on various factors, but do people really think that this is an average profile of a WP? Maybe a CL perhaps... depending on who they are...

(PS, this isn't meant to be a "My $ is more than yours" thread, so please don't push it that way!)

As a 24yo WP (close to LTS) who joined his current employer as a graduate only 2.5yrs ago, I can assure you I fall well short of that mark Mal. :D

It's the very high net-worth of the individuals at the top of the scale that makes the average so high. There are (obviously!) some seriously wealthy people who fly with QF, and I would imagine that they would skew the balance toward the $2M figure, and more than make up for the WPs at the lower end of the scale.

note that not all CLs are frequent travellers. Its often given to people who may travel little themselves, but influence how a large travel budget is spent within their organisation. In the company I work for, I would not be surprised if the national travel manager is a CL, but that person would rarely have any need to travel. They are responsible for defining travel policy and negotiating contracts with providers - a position of influence over a very large travel budget spend.

The only CL I know doesnt even live in Australia and flies QF infrequently. He also has AA conciege key and had to ask me what it meant. He does control a huge travel budget though.

Than the airlines have failed. The sould make sure every CL knows what the benifits are. Otherwise, may aswel had them all silver cards.

I will second that ! its a good read, and until not i am sure the best in-flight mag i have read of any airline so far.
