Qantas Luxury Promo for some IHG Properties

Last week I was looking to book the Voco Melbourne for a weekend away later this year and would normally book direct on the IHG website for best price and included welcome drinks.

But as Qantas were offering double points on hotel bookings I thought Id take a quick look to see if there was an alternative offering that might be worth considering.

Interestingly I noticed that Qantas Hotels had a luxury offer on the Voco and some other IHG properties:

The price was cheaper than booking direct, included breaky plus would earn double points. Naturally I booked being happy to forgo the small amount of IHG points.

Then this morning I needed to book another hotel via IHG site as there wasn’t a better price elsewhere or special offer on Qantas, and noticed that the Qantas booking was showing in my upcoming IHG stays indicating I would also be earning IHG points.

Im guessing the booking was matched on email address or phone number but I didn’t think Id get any IHG points given it wasn’t booked direct.

A nice surprise.

Keen to know if the points credit

IHG do honour bookings made through a travel agent who have an actual physical outlet. So I have used Virtuoso and Amex in recent years but pre covid used our TA as they had a lower price than IHG. Told it was because a major packaged tour company had put a lot of rooms back into the pool. Also worked with Hilton
But Luxury Escapes doesn't work with IHG as in Australia they are just an OTC. They must consider Qantas offices around Australia as physical offices for Qantas travel.

I will report back noting the stay isn't until October.

Bookings made via my previous employers online Corporate Travel Agency always gave me IHG or Accor or Hilton points etc but when I've previously booked Accor properties through Qantas Hotels I have not received any Accor benefits, so was surprised this IHG booking seems to be indicating it will.

Not a big deal if they do not credit given I saved money, got free confirmed upgraded room type, free breaky and am getting 6 points per $ from Qantas.

I've had 2 luxury escapes booking at the crown Terrigal credit points.

Note this was NOT a Luxury Escapes booking. It was a Luxury offer via Qantas Hotels.

Nothing in the booking pager nor booking confirmation mentions Luxury Escapes which is a whole other company.

No, you don’t get any IHG qualifying points credited for any stay if it’s booked through Qantas Hotels. It shows as a ‘Non-qualifying stay’ on the Activity Statement. However, I was credited 500pts for using the A Greener Stay door hanger, and my Gold status was recognised so I got breakfast included which made an overall better deal for the price. So it was only the stay points and nights foregone.

Ah yes, just checked the QH booking and it was the breakfast included rate! With 6 x QP it worked out better than booking direct, which for the same price wouldn't have included breakfast but would have registered IHG points/nights

So I guess its up to you to weigh up whether Qantas points or IHG points/nights are more valuable to you based on your status goals and the promotions on offer?

Thought I’d report back on a Qantas Luxury Hotels booking.

Booked 2 nights at the brand new Indigo Little Collins Melbourne for $499 including breakfast, drink voucher and late checkout. (Just for comparison a 2 night booking direct on a non-refundable rate without brekkie was about ~$600)

At checkin, hotel asked for IHG Rewards numbers, plugged it in - thanked me for being IHG Platinum - then offered 600 points or 2 drink vouchers (on top of the 2 Qantas drink vouchers).

Then after checkout, full IHG points were awarded for the stay - which in a month will also earn the Qantas + PC+ bonus points. So seems some QF Luxury Hotels bookings can be double-dipped.

Great outcome for you! How to know in advance which booking could be double-dipped is the question, without wanting to draw too much attention and risking points/status being dishonoured

My suspicion is if the booking made via Qantas shows in your IHG account under future bookings you will get benefits (as I suspect these are processed like corporate TA bookings)

In past if I have booked via another platformit hasnt shown up in my IHG account BUT these Luxury offer bookings showed up in IHG right away for me at least (just like corporate TA bookings do)..

So possibly Luxury Hotels is a different platform to the normal Qantas Hotels which I'm pretty sure is just Expedia and generally thus wouldn't earn.
It’s hard to say. A Qantas Luxury Hotels booking at Hilton Little Queen St did not have the same result - no HH Gold brekkie or points offered.
