Qantas lounge Gold Coast - drink limit

It’s a bit grey - it’s definitely federal land, but it’s still part of the state it’s in - which makes it similar to other Federal installations like ADF bases.
Qld retail regulations do not apply at BNE, hence Woolworths is open 24 hours, including Public Holidays. I seem to remember there was an issue around gaming (casket, lotto etc) a few years back in relation to newsagent operations at BNE.

Well noted jjonnboy

The Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulations 1997 states: (r102): "The Trading (Allowable Hours) Act 1990 of Queensland does not apply to consumer trading at Brisbane Airport, Archerfield Airport, Gold Coast Airport or Townsville Airport."

And section 173 of the 1996 Act allows Federal regulation of gambling, including "a game of chance, a mixed game of chance and skill, or a lottery, (whether involving the use of a machine or otherwise)".

Yep. That was the main point of my post - the federal government delegates certain powers to the host state as it doesn’t want to be responsible, but it can pick and choose like you’ve mentioned.

Hence - it’s all very grey.

Yes, that was me agreeing and reflecting on interactions with BAC, involving seeking Federal approvals for operations that wouldn't normally require them 😉

To add another side of this, i've been drinking heavily in the GC VA lounge for years and never had even a mention of RSA or drink limit. This was pre covid/ collapse so things "might" have changed now too. Even if they have I haven't seen any changes to QLD RSA policy in the last couple of years so I suspect any "restriction" is either due to a recent problem, airline cost cutting or an employee taking their job too seriously. Either way, pending any new boarder closures I'll be at the GC Qantas Club next week and will be sure to "test" this policy out heavily for "research purposes" ;)

Love the first, banana0692 - sounds like a confession!! I'll be in the GCQC Sunday, unfortunately at OMG o'clock so research will be impractical!

As a data point QPub was open more than an hour before services today.

However, it was a complete zoo. Lots of silver's trying to gain access with their passes but too full. Felt sorry for lounge angel having to deal with some hostility.

No issues on drinks but was travelling J thank goodness as catering didn't look appetizing.

I'll be there next month (travelling Y) departing 16:05, and hopefully I'll be admitted, as a Qantas Club member and a BA Gold (OW Emerald).

But who knows....

I feel sorry for those folks with the passes. There are so many in circulation these days that this situation was bound to happen.

If they're Silver members they have every right & deserve to get in. (Capacity limits of course)
It's the countless credit card & other freebies I consider frivolous & should be pushed behind silver members.

Just my 2c.

My view on the list order should be QP Members (yes, they paid for it), then Platinum (Emerald), Gold (Sapphire), Silver (Ruby), everyone else. Lucky I don't make the rules I haha.

Inebriation levels differ with different people.

I would like to see an element of dexterity skills to determine whether it would be responsible (or otherwise) to continue to serve me. I'm not suggesting an obstacle course in the middle of the Lounge (as it would require too much deep cleaning - and judging by tray tops and seat pockets of late, QF would fail this quite comfortably) - my ability to continue to type coherently on my laptop should suffice, since this would be the mainstay of my tasks within the cabin ...
