Qantas lounge Gold Coast - drink limit

The bar attendant and lounge host advise that the “Responsible service of alcohol “ rule is in place . This will only allow 2 drinks in the first hour and one drink per hour thereafter . So after 3 x 100ml pours of wine I was told you are not allowed anymore . Anyone else been offered this hospitality ?

Sounds like it's either someone taking their RSA too seriously or there been a problem recently.

The Gold Coast Qantas club generally was more relaxed than the other clubs with alcohol service often starting much earlier than the published time (you just had to ask).

I think the club on the gold coast is run by a 3rd party (happy to be corrected) but last time I was there the staff including at the reception desk weren't Qantas staff.

Looking at Queensland’s RSA guidelines the prohibition seems to be against serving someone who is ‘unduly intoxicated’. I can’t see a drink limit.

The two drinks in first hour and then on per hour will help towards keeping someone under the legal limit, but I’m not sure that’s relevant.

However, there’s a bit of a difficulty when it comes to flying... you could be refused boarding if you are considered intoxicated. So QF may have its own rules in place, but I’m not sure they are ‘the’ RSA rules or ‘QF’s’ version of RSA.

That sounds like the alcohol limit for a male being able to drive legally (roughly).

Perhaps they've worn out using Covid as an excuse for cost cutting and needed to move onto something else?

QP was only opening 45 minutes before scheduled flights when I was there a month ago. How quickly are you necking the drinks? Though if you are thirsty I guess 1 every 15 minutes will quench a thirst!

That strikes me as a reasonable balance.

Why do they even have pours? You are allowed to fill your own glass in lounges outside Australia (or Central Asia where you have to pay...)

QLD liquor laws are very very strict.... the penalties and repercussions are huge as well

I'll be GC QF lounge this Thursday so will so how it goes with bar service.

I was looking at QF website & it was stating the GC QF lounge was closed until just last week.

I note VA have pour your own wine & I know QF in Hobart at least had pour your own spirits (when I was there recently) so not sure how they'd count each persons quantity.
Beer of course is behind the fridge, but unsure how they'd always know how many each person has consumed.
Maybe QLD stricter as Jakeseven posted.

Same for me 2 weeks ago. Curious to see if they are opening earlier now. My flight boarded early so only had 35 mins to try grab some sort of light dinner and beverage. Even the staff commented on short we were in there for. Made no sense to me.

Knocked over 2 James Boags in GC lounge in short time, but couldn've easy went for a 3rd, didn't touch the 40° shelf. They happy to give what you want, no chance of counting.
85% full. Still great service.
Not the pub atmosphere I expected.

Yes , run by Oceania aviation . Here again today and again same rules . Actually we only allow 3 drinks regardless of time in lounge as flying elevates your intoxication ?? Perhaps the business class wine service should also abide by this rule if that’s the case

Perhaps they should breathalyse people going into the lounge to make sure they haven't been pre-loading.

Think its a Queensland thing, they seem to invoke responsible service of alcohol laws as an excuse to not honour entitlements sometimes. Last trip to Port Douglas pre covid, Peppers hotel wouldnt allow the welcome drink voucher to be used on anything alcoholic only softdrink or coffee. Where as Peppers properties in ACT and WA they gladly gave wine or beer or coughtail of the day i.e. honoured loyalty entitlements.

No drink limits imposed in any of the other QF lounges ive visited since covid stopped self service. Unless someone is noticeably intoxicated, seems superstrict.

Maybe just stinginess at Peppers. Sofitel Brisbane offers alcohol for the welcome drink.

I believe so. State liquor laws applied on campus at UWA which is federal.
