strange, esp given the MEL - LAX cancellation and this one apparently continuing to LAX

I thought they usually used a different flight no. eg. 6001 for these flights?

Any idea why they are running it? I see it is then scheduled to head to LAX presumably then back to normal operations?

Climb out of Melbourne didn’t look to have any height restrictions and normal departure profile so didn’t appear to be any technical reason why going via/to HNL?

And looks like it has had a fairly typical turnaround time (incl 30 min delayed departure ) and now departed for LAX as QF6001!

Freight? Or the charter was that church mob having a holiday in HNL heading home. MEL FID had the flight as departing as QF6001 on the departure boards. All a bit odd

6001 was a Brethern charter last year I recall, SYD-AKL.

Considering the costs involved pulling it off a revenue service, crewing, these flights have cost a motza. Certainly must be more worthwhile for QF compared to operating a normal service otherwise why bother, so no doubt in the millions here. I’ll leave the Church money trail discussion for reddit
