Ahead of Hawaiian Airlines joining the Oneworld alliance next year, Qantas has entered into a bilateral codeshare partnership with the airline. From tomorrow, you'll also be able to book Classic Reward seats on Hawaiian using Qantas Points.

I thought some codeshares would be on the cards with HA coming to OW, but also JQ exiting HNL for now.

Could be a mixed bag with QF switching back to A330s (some days with AY metal / 3 class cabin), plus HA codeshare.

Hopefully we’ll see the HA 787 someday?

So I have a Hawaiian booking for July, that I booked on the basis of Velocity partnership to earn SCs. That's gone... and based on this release, QFFs will also earn no points or SCs on a Hawaiian booking (only if you book a US domestic codeshare with a QF flight number). So its a bit ordinary.

Doesn’t help you in the short term, but when HA join OW you’d earn points and SCs as per whatever partner earn table at the time. Probably the same as AS would be my guess.

Booking a future codeshare (QF code) on HA metal from Oz to HNL will earn QFF points and SCs as soon as that’s possible.

Rewards are being booked under AS codes.

It wouldn’t surprise me if QF allows AS marketed flights operated by HA eligible to earn points and SCs. As I understand it, every HA flight has a corresponding AS flight number.

Or explicitly stated in post 7.

Especially for the new international AS flights from SEA that will be operated by HA but really AS flights.
Unfortunately, neither the QF earn table for AS has been updated (and still excludes non OW codeshares), nor the OW page for AS and their affiliates (which might happen when HA joins OW). Although a lot of the chatter suggests a seperate OW member (despite the internal machinations going on within AS and HA…🤷‍♂️

My earlier comment was picking up on the award flights coming up as the AS “codeshare” and what that means for lounge access - probably no access for now and no worse off if they have HA code for the time being.

Chris Chamberlin has confirmed with AS executives that eventually all flights will carry only the AS flight code and the HA code will be retired. I suspect HA will not join oneworld as a new member but will be in oneworld by way of folding completely in AS when they move to a single AOC. It explains why you will need an AS flight number to book a reward seat. The Hawaiian brand will only exist as in ASxx_x operated by Hawaiian Airlines.

Which will still require them updating the OW site to include HA as an “affiliate” airline to AS.

Hopefully, they do that sooner than later and the OW “entry” is a non-event?
