Hi everyone

I was just using the booking engine and noticed that there were both Qantas and Jetstar flights coming back from Tokyo to Melbourne.

Obviously there is a price or points difference in choosing one over the other. But what is the difference in terms of the customer experience? Is the food better on Qantas, legroom, access to Qantas club etc?

Please comment.

Full flat seat vs recliner. Not sure that you get lounge access on a JQ J reward either

QF has nonstop flights between NRT and MEL whereas JQ operates via CNS or OOL

There's no comparison. Lie-flat bed, full service, pyjamas etc. on Qantas. Jetstar is totally inferior in comparison. There is no way I'd pick JQ if both airlines have availability when I want to fly. Seriously, I've slept better flying overnight in Qantas economy than in Jetstar "business class".

Jetstar do fly direct Tokyo to Melbourne.

That rules JQ out for me. Anyone care to comment on the merits of QF vs JAL in J class?

Sorry, but this is not correct. The Jetstar flights are now via Cairns or Gold Coast.

JAL is definitely better in Y class! 8-abreast on the 787 with ample legroom and fantastic service. You also get the benefit (depending on how you see it) of a day flight back from Tokyo.

So sorry that was a typo. I meant to say J class. I've now edited the post. Sorry.

My bad. You are correct. It shows on the booking engine like a direct flight but the fine print shows 1 stop.

JAL sky suite on 787 every time from the above list.

What about the comparison between Qantas 737 J and Jetstar 787 J? Just comparing seat only, not food, entertainment or status credit earn. Just the seat? Haven't flown Jetstar 787.

If you have status with Qantas you'd still have access to the Qantas lounge??

Same, same..broken back on JQ 787 BKK-MEL & QF 737 MEL-AKL - never again! JQ slightly better.

No lounge access in NRT for JQ J. Maybe I should have mentioned Japanese Hospitality & Sakura Lounge in NRT to the OP.

Thing about JQ Japan to Aust too, is that you have to transfer to a domestic flight in CNS back down to MEL/SYD, meaning that you have to do incoming immigration in CNS, then bring all your bags onto the Aust domestic flight.
Would be better to have it JL/JAL bring all your bags from Japan to your final destination, and then do immigration and customs there.
O/T: but in my case, from my fav destination, ie, NZ, coming back to Aust, (Air)NZ wins over the rest as I can come back direct from AKL - ADL bypassing the east coast, seeing I live in ADL.
Stopping in CNS and having to do immigration and customs there, if you don't live there, also means more time taken.
I would take JL/JAL J for sure over JQ J.

The worse thing about JQ J is the bogans you get in there who upgraded for $250 at the airport and think it makes them special :)
