Qantas Investor Presentation

Yes I see another "enhancement" coming along.
QF may go along the lines of NZ where the all seats are available but sort of tied to fare class availability so a flight to the same destination could cost differently depending upon loads.
Also even if QF makes all seats available it will be limited to their program where other oneworld FFP will still have to use the award fare buckets.
I am not exactly a fan of the "fourth cabin" as it makes upgrading to Business much more expensive from WHY.
There are some other interesting points made so QF is definitely going to change hopfully we will like it.

More "enhancements" coming soon.

Fourth cabin
More than likely at the expense of economy. Not good news for people wishing to upgrade to business from economy.

Access to any seat
I find that hard to believe. I think this should read "access to any seat we make available".

The "Frequent Flyer Program" slide was interesting:

"Introducing a Jetstar loyalty program"

I will reserve judgement on that one.

"Reviewing ownership"

That sets the warning bells going.

And come on QF, "our position as Australia's leading loyalty program". Yeah, like there's soooo much competition for that title!

I see the introduction of a fourth cabin benificial for people that want more comfort than Y but cannot afford, or travel policy does not include, J seats. If you hadn't noticed this includes me.

Just as long as it is still reasonably priced though, otherwise I probably wont get approval for Y+ seats and, as mentioned above, the upgrade path to J gets longer.

Once again "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!"
As members of the QF FFP we agreed that the T&C can change but just because QF sells it does not mean it will get terminably worse. AC Aeroplan has been a good example of some changes benefiting some while some changes were not. AC has one of the lowest requirements to attain *A Gold!
If you are concerned about your FFP accruals then diversify into other oneworld programs or change to *A flights, REX, DJ, VS, EK etc.

Even in the presentation you can see they are aware that they need to be careful to keep there current FF members happy.

I notice the B747 2010 rollover issue .... I guess that means no B748's keep the old birds a while longer (the 744ER's not actually that old)

I see the direction to re-fit the current domestic fleet interiors and to attempt to minimise engine/plane conbinations which may mean taking a lot more 787 options which would be good.
Looks like 767's will be re-fitted and kept.

4th cabin like WT+ would be very attractive to me where J is too expensive for my company but provided the premium economy was not too expensive could be an option, for my personal travel i would be considering that for sure.
The main issue i see with this is the potential increase in cost of FF awards into J.

I'll be curious to see the conditions that "Access any seat" has with it.
I think it's mostly a response to the way Virgin Blue is running their program, where the points let you get any seat or fare you want, just like money.

Hopefully the see sense and don't start a new program for JQ. Surely it would build more QF FF program loyalty if they allowed accrual on JQ cheapy fares at a reduced rate ie 50% or something.

It would certainly make more sense than setting up a competing loyalty scheme. This way you'd encourage customers from either airline to also fly the other.

Maybe like Marco Polo and Asia Miles that Cathay use ?

I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place here. Y+ will be beneficial in that out travel policy is to fly economy at junior levels and there is a loop hole in the policy as premium economy still has the word 'economy' in it.

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, the upgrade from economy to business will be more expensive and we will see yet another devalue of our points. :(

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Isnt Marco Polo status only and Asia miles is points earning?
Yes that could be true, as i don't fly that much with CX i never investigated further, but Asia miles for my DragonAir flights :) - until the become OW anyway.

I dont really use points to upgrade internationally as I would rather have a confirmed J seat than a standby one. SO if using miles I would just buy a complete miles ticket.

I would really like to see Y+ as it is in my budget to pay for and having lived in the UK for te past 7 years, I have gotten used to Y+ with BA.

I'm not so sure about them keeping the 767's, I see them being replaced by the 787 as it comes online - but bear in mind it is still a few years from them all being delivered, and they really do need to do something with some of the cabins. Maybe the 737's will get a makeover as well.
