I have booked Qantas reward return Premium Economy flights to YVR.
On the return flight I can do seat selection but on the outbound flight I cant.
I rang and was advised that as I am Bronze I cant select seats, because the remaining seats are reserved for status flyers and are not open to me yet.
Is this normal?

Yes, it is normal. In each cabin QF has a specific allocation of seats for passengers based on status.

Perhaps try again 80 hours before departure. The other seats should open up then (if still available).

On the upside, it means that only the better seats are left so when you get one it will probably be a better one than you might have been able to select for yourself. But keep checking because seat availability changes a lot.

Checked this morning and they have allocated 21 ab.
Operator said no and I asked her to double check. Put me on hold again and then call dropped out. Seems she did manage to get them allocated.
Good result.
