SYD/AKL and AKL/SYD respectively. Not a cardboard box anymore, at least (or was that breakfast only?). Tasted pretty good too - about the same as what you'd find on an Air NZ the works fare.

QF 153 Mel-Akl 3/11/23

Mixed grain salad with smoked salmon. Cheese and crackers and Lindt ball later.

The salad was actually very nice. I wonder if bread and ice cream will ever make a comeback?

The kiwi crew were a bit lacklustre. All drinks including tea and coffee water and wine were served with the meal. No offer of additional drinks during the clear in or later in the flight. The person behind me asked for a second wine and received a “we’ll see response”.

I'm super grateful that Qantas does plant-based dining on all international flights now, but wow I wish they'd introduce some variety. Pretty sure I've had the tandoori cauliflower on every flight to Singapore so far this year.

QF158 Akl-Mel 10/11/23

Bolognaise pasta, cheese and crackers & Kit Kat to follow. Nothing particularly exciting but the food was tasty enough. Crew were proactive with extra drinks. Flight was about an hour late which seems pretty standard based on some of my recent trips out of Auckland.

Quite a few Trans Tasman meals being shown here. Definitely looks better than NZ Works meals that I've had shown to me by many friends - the last poor effort by NZ was some sort of chicken breast with mash and a few beans... the breast looked dry as a bone and the portion about 60-80% of that shown in QF pictures.

QF meals are disgusting on long haul. But then I am of the age when meals were served on a tray with metal cutlery and various dishes. I hate bamboo.and paper cups. It seems economy class pax are liable to injure someone where as business class will not.

It's probably a mater of time until 'free' or rather 'included' meals will disappear - unfortunately. Passengers will be asked to pay as it is currently the case with budget airlines such as Jetstar.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that in order to reduce plastic waste, instead of going back to fully reusable (that is to say, metal) cutlery, we've gone to bamboo cutlery instead.

I don't mind the food itself being served in paper containers though.

Agree, but all you can do is vote with your wallet and fly another airline. Plastics are on the way out and washing up unless you are a premium passenger is gone.

You do all realise that you are not required to eat the food. You can simply decline the service if the quality of the food or the cutlery is not up to your standards.

Frankly they shouldn't bother with food in economy given how disgusting it is these days. Better to offer something decent for a fee.

That's correct, but on a long flight, you don't necessary have much alternatives except bringing your own food, which may or may not be an option. The airline food that you have not taken will then be disposed of.

Since the start of November the catering has had a drastic improvement.

Wines are better quality after they were absolute trash, hot snacks offered at times where a piece of formerly frozen cake or a wet soggy muffin was offered, sandwich offered where it was an off brand cheese and crackers, hot snacks seemingly after 1600 and then hot meals after 1700.

These are intra WA but had around 10 of these flights and it’s like flying a different airline from 3 weeks ago in terms of catering.

Yes I am aware. But QF is a full service airline . At least Jetstar meals are edible.

100% Agree.
I would rather pay for a decent meal on long haul
Sure, so long as the airfare comes down few hundred $$$ too. Disgusting that quality has become so poor to the point we have to conaider forking above and beyond their already exxy fare for something edible.
