Hi All,

I have a couple of upcoming bookings.
First one on QF. SYD -> BNE-> SIN, arriving at 4pm.
Then on SQ SIN -> BOM leaving at 6:55pm.

Is there any chance at all the on checkin in Sydney they will be able to check my bags all the way through to Mumbai? Bookings are completely separate, and they would need to check my visa for India, so I'm guessing my chances are very low (even if they did interline with SQ). Anyone have any experiences on this?

Also, any tips for a speedy T1 to T2 transfer (post immigration since I probably have to collect bags)?

Qantas will not interline on separate PNRs unless its JQ or OneWorld as a rule.

Okay, I figured that might be the case.

Thanks for the quick response!

But the SQ transfer desk (Transfer Lounge E or F, Terminal 2) at Sin can help retrieve and transfer your bags so you don't have to go landside, and issue you with a Sq Sin-Bom BP, I think :)
Transit Information - Changi Airport
[h=3]What should I do if I have a connecting flight at Changi?[/h] (a) If you are connecting from a full service carrier flight to another.
If you have your boarding pass (with a seat allocation) for your connecting flight, you may proceed directly to the gate for your connecting flight. If you do not have a boarding pass for your connecting flight, you should proceed to the nearest Transfer counter in the terminal of your connecting flight. You will then be issued with a boarding pass and arrangements will be made for the transfer of your baggage to your connecting flight. Passengers are advised to find out the transfer details from their airline(s) before embarking on their journeys. Most passengers who are arriving on a budget airline or connecting to a budget airline are required to seek immigration clearance and obtain their onward boarding passes in the respective Departure Check-in Hall.

Really? They'll pick the bags up from the carousel, or do they intercept them before they get that far?? That would be awesome.

Qantas wouldn't interlink my bags to MU, even though they code share on the same MU flight last week. Though I was on the EK flight number/booking on QF51.

Like Marcus said, they told me not one world or single PNR, they will not interlink.

Depends how quickly you get to the transfer agent.
A few weeks ago, I was traveling PEK-HKG-SIN-HND then onto ITM on another ticket. CX couldn't issue the JL pass to HND, so I had to visit the transfer desk. When I told them I was going to Osaka and gave them the details for the other ticket, they issued both JL passes and had my bag pulled and retagged.

Good to know. Sitting in second row (of Y) so hopefully will be quick out. Every other time I've always had to wait a while at the baggage collection, so hopefully should be no problem.

They go and collect the bags and manually tag them.

Do note the service is not foolproof and make sure you have things you need in your carryon to get by for the first day or so. My luggage has been delayed at least 2-3 times using the transfer desk and I have missed a game of golf in Thailand. Sometimes I am paranoid and if I have time up my sleeve I go out and collect bags and check-in again myself.

Others have 100% success ratio.

Any reason why you couldn't do both, just to be sure ? Do the transfer desk thing, but then go landside and make sure your bags get picked up. If not, re-check them.

Airside-landside-airside transfer in SIN is about the smoothest in the world.

Re T1 to T2, presumably you can then go back airside in T1 and catch the inter-terminal train ?

Maybe golf clubs add a degree of finagle to the process ...
Possibly.

Every time I go to transfer desk for boarding pass they sucker me in to transferring the bags as well. And yes you are right. SIN is one of the easiest places to collect luggage and check-in again.

No further planned same day transits next year.

Get the transfer train. If you have your bags you can transfer landside no problem at all. It is the same train that does airside transfers, one carriage is for landside one for airside, only difference is the side you get in/out.

If the QF to SIN flight, and the SQ from SIN to BOM flights are on different PNR, QF in BNE wouldnot ask to view the Visa to India, would they?
They (QF) would view you as going as far as SIN.
If it was on the same booking/PNR, QF staff at BNEi would indeed need to see the visa.
You (OP) would only have to fill in an Au OPC for SIN. SIN does not Au citizens to have visas, so its more so the dep from SIN to IND that would be where the SQ staff would need to view the In Visa.
Edit: OP, why didnt you check the QF website, JetAirways does have a QF code from SIN to BOM, you could have earnt QF FF points and QF SC if you had done SYD BNE BOM booking on the QF website, and its on one PNR too.
Too late now though, but next time, maybe check the QF website.
If I wanted to do the routing, I would have made the whole booking as one.
You could have gotten 10550 QF FF points and 125 QF SC if it was on QF and 9W (flying code share with QF).

Yeah, one booking would have been ideal, but the BOM trip was tacked onto the Singapore trip, so didn't work out that way. Couldn't get Qantas to sell me a flight for SIN to BOM, so went with SQ to get the VA status credits (and would rather fly them than Jet). Yeah it's made it a bit more difficult, but should still be okay.

Actually don't need the status credits as the flight to Singapore will get me to SG and no way I'm making WP.

Thanks for the tips, will try to get SQ to transfer the bags for me.

Qantas will not interline on separate PNRs unless its JQ or OneWorld as a rule.

That used to be the case but now for QF to through check on separate pnrs the other carrier must be a One World member or EK so this excludes JQ.

Bags from a QF dom flight to a JQi flight have to be in the same pnr and that's only possible if both flights are booked through the QF website. It doesn't matter whether the flight is sold as/marketed at QF283 or JQ3 in the case of SYD/HNL but both flights must be booked in the same pnr.

Qantas wouldn't interlink my bags to MU, even though they code share on the same MU flight last week. Though I was on the EK flight number/booking on QF51. Like Marcus said, they told me not one world or single PNR, they will not interlink.

Any codeshare agreement that QF have with non OW carriers or EK does not affect the above rules on interlining on separate pnrs.

Travelling on an MU flight (sold as MU flight number and MU metal) is not the same thing as travelling on a QF marketed flight (sold as QF flight number but MU metal).

The fact that there may be a QF codeshare agreement in existence on that flight has no bearing on the situation unless you're booked on the QF codeshare flight itself.

If the QF to SIN flight, and the SQ from SIN to BOM flights are on different PNR, QF in BNE would not ask to view the Visa to India, would they? They (QF) would view you as going as far as SIN. If it was on the same booking/PNR, QF staff at BNEi would indeed need to see the visa.

QF in BNE would not need to see your visa for India if they were only checking your bags through to SIN but as Singapore require 6 months validity on passports on arrival, staff would check that you have at least 6 months on your passport.

As the SIN/BOM was an afterthought it was possible cheaper to purchase a separate ticket SIN/BOM on SQ than pay the adcoll to have the SIN/BOM sector added to the original booking and have the eticket re-issued so all flig. hts were on the same pnr. In the latter case your bags could have been through checked BNE/xSIN/BOM.

Ah, ok, so you will get the VA side of VA FF points and VA SC.
Noted.
But also, I do note your point about SQ... I have travelled them once a long time ago, in J.
Analogy here: when the SQ girl took (on her pieces of note book) what I wanted for lunch, she got down to the level of the seats, you know, bad of me to say, but did that sort of kneeling down, ie, get to the seating level of the customer, while when I travelled with JQ and QF's Jetconnect, both in J, the FA just stood and asked what I wanted for (JQ) mid afternoon snack, and for QF's Jetconnect, what I wanted for dinner.
Ok, as you were then, enjoy the trip.
