It wasn't a good day with the entertainment system yesterday, first flight Melbourne to Sydney didn't work, and then the second flight from Sydney to Manila the system had crashed for only 3 rows of seats, one of them being ours.
It seemed as though I had travelled in time back to the seventies when you either slept, or stared at the ceiling for the whole flight.

We have been offered 5000 points for the inconvenience, so at least received something for it.

The crew were very apologetic for the non operation of the system and tried everything to get it going, so no use ranting about it, just saying.

Cheers

Why not take your own on an ipad? Much more reliable than the aircraft system.

5000 points (or $50) seems reasonable. Yes you could take an ipad... but IFE is an advertised (and paid for) feature of the ticket. It should be compensated for if not available.

Mel_Traveller,
Yes, if I had an ipad I could have taken one, so I agree with you totally, that it is an advertised product, say in lieu of travelling with that other crowd, the child of qantas.

But for it to happen on two different flights on the same day, maybe is a maintenance issue?

Cheers,

Dunno if it's a maintenance 'issue' - but no doubt there's cost involved to keep it running. Some airlines (AA) are dispensing with it outright on new planes. Makes sense I guess... as long as you provide ipads and streaming on board.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

But was the 5000 points for both flights or just one sector? I'm assuming the flight to Manila.

I got $75SGD for failed IFE on an SQ flight SIN-CGK on Sunday. Make that times 2 as my sons was also not working. Only killer it is in the form of duty free voucher and they gave them out to us and a few others where it wasn't working just after they closed duty free sales so need to fly them again to spend.

And years ago on BMed flight from LHR to Ankara in business had late minute a/c swap to one without the advertised IFE system and whole aircraft got to spend on duty free. J pax like me got up to 200GBP and if I recall Y was 100GBP.

More like bad luck. There isn't any maintenance as such on things like IFE, just break fix. But of course fix is not an über urgent thing

I flew Melbourne - Singapore a month back. Was looking fwd to trying the new seats on the A333. But there was a aircraft change and got stuck with a "domestic" A332. The entertainment was via the Ipads - so pretty good. Except there was a in seat power issue throughout the aircraft, so one couldn't charge the ipad. After about an hour, my ipad died and had to resort to sleeping and reading a book thereafter. I complained to Qantas, but got nothing back in return - except a apology letter.

Sadly it seems you do need to ask the CSM to make a note then lodge a complaint, more often than not.

Contrast with a CX flight I took a few months back. Seat IFE failure was acknowledged early in flight and I was given a US$100 voucher for use on duty free or flights within 12 months. I made a good call and bought a nice US$90 scotch onboard.

IFE was not functioning properly on SQ flight SYD-SIN last month. Crew offered nothing other than apology. Used wife's IFE from my seat which is not that easy.
