With the approval of the JV, looks like Qantas have finally got around to improving the earn rates on some AA services (such as TransPac).

People may remember they slaughtered them two years ago when the JV was knocked back.

Good news. :). Thank you for posting.

Great news! Now I only wish QF could also change the fare rules which make QF codeshare on AA book in the lowest class available when booking Flexible economy fare.

Well that explains why the calculator is going a bit haywire today. You can get transcon flight SCs on the calculator for AA but for example out of DFW no cabin is on any service.Still a work in progress.
Hopefully on Transcons a better harvest of FCs connecting in DFW rather than flying direct.

From an email just received:

For over 30 years Qantas and American Airlines have connected Australia and the USA, flying to over 350 destinations across more than 50 countries.

As a result of our recently announced partnership, we've added more frequent flyer benefits making travel with Qantas and American Airlines easier and more rewarding than ever.*

Qantas Frequent Flyers travelling on flights with an American Airlines (AA) flight number will now:

  • Earn up to 3.5 times more Qantas Points on flights between Australia and North America.*
  • Earn up to 4.5 times more Status Credits on flights between Australia and North America as well as on flights within USA and Canada.*

I'm still trying to understand it all but I'm hoping it means SC earning of old, putting YUPPs and KUPPs back on the table.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Will be interesting to see how these impact status runs! Not quite the gold mine of old but certainly better than it was prior. Especially those sub-400 mile "J" earning fares bumping up to 40sc now.

I just checked SFO to Boston in F, flights we took in July (via ORD). I earned 140SC for those flights (80+60). The calc is now showing 120 for SFO-ORD, half as much again so I'll guess 90 for ORD to Boston. 210 potentially now.

Remember that AA nerfed most of the domestic F runs, by changing the booking class from A,F, P to J, D, I, other than for the 3-class services.

Still, by doubling the earn for J, D and I short hauls, there might be some new value to be had. No time to research right now but look forward to seeing what the community comes up with

If Qantas' points/SC calculator was working, I'd be able to see what my upcoming long and short hauls on AA will earn, compared to what i recorded previously. But the work experience kids are at at again ...

Starting to appear.I can now get a result MIA-LAX and DFW-MIA but of course that plane goes somewhere else as AA has nothing MIA-DFW.
But appears when flying domestic F on AA you get the QF discount business SCs.But that improves the connecting transcon flights earn.
So last month mrsdrron got 50 SCs flying BOS-LAX but this month would be 100.but flying BOS-DFW-LAX gets 160 SCs.

All good if points on AA flights actually get credited. I travel US domestic on AA a lot and lately it’s been a real hassle just to get the points and credits. They just don’t credit automatically like they used to, no idea why.

AA changed the booking classes for domestic F on 2 class aircraft from First class booking codes (F, A, P) to business class codes (J, D, I) in late 2016.
Except on the A321T (JFK-LAX/SFO) and the odd widebody flight between hubs, AA domestic F is only marketed as "First", it is sold as Business.

Yes I had already pointed that out before.

So there is a bit of a bump. I am sure someone will be able to find a better sweet spot, but an example I've looked at is MCO-MIA-DFW-ORD-BOS-JFK. Currently pricing at $847AUD in I, if my calcs are correct would earn 40+60+60+60+40, being 260 or $3.25/sc. Previously would have been 20+60+60+60+20 or $3.85/sc.

So perhaps it will help with some AA runs where multiple sub 400 routes are involved.

Well I'e been watching MIA-DFW closely in domestic F ie business class.Still no AA earn up but everywhere else earns on AA at the QF discount business rate which is 80SCs for MIA-DFW.

That seems correct, only routes under 400 and 401-750 miles seem to have been doubled, those 750-1500 etc seem to be under the other partner earn table at the bottom of the page (80scs as you've quoted)

That earning table is the most confusing and convoluted piece of cough I have ever seen.
The point-to-point calculator is by far the easiest, but still shows you class options for classes that don't exist.
